Homework assignment to client/group

Asked client to keep practicing 3 part breath. Take a breath, shake her arms and hands when she feels overwhelmed. I asked her to think “What would more balance look like in my life?” Daily cat/cow and child’s pose. I suggested getting her children involved. Showing her children how to do child’s pose, It’s very calming for her and her children.

Activities

Getting some anxious energy out before we sit and breathe. We started with some bouncy twists and shaking. I asked how she breathes: belly or chest first. She said chest. We worked on 3 part breath, placing hands on check, side ribs & belly. Feeling her breath. Seated and standing movements: breath with movement. Forward fold, forward and back bends, child's pose, (cobra/cat - cow), table top leg lifts, arm lifts, twists, lunges, shoulder rolls, standing marches. Sun A and tree pose. I started tree pose in segments. Starting with leg lift forward at 90 degrees. Then left and rotate to the side. Then lift and put toe on ground and finally, do all the motions and put the foot on the calf. Each time asking If she can center and focus on her movement, come to her breathe and feel the balance within and when she is centered, can she feel the steadiness, her mind, body and breath.

Client/Group progress summary

Client is so sweet. She was able to move but said there was tension during modified bird/dog. She needs overall strengthening and calm. Client does not like to close eyes or gaze down. She seems uneasy during yoga nidra. She says she likes it but seems uneasy.

Reflection and self-evaluation

Session went well. Client was very receptive. I think the tree and reflection went well.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

Continue with 3 part breath. Continue to strengthen and lengthen. Continue with Sun A and tree pose. Will add some backbends: modified salabhasana - starting with lower body and then upper body. Slowly working our way to the full pose.
