Activities

Intake
Anamaya Seated: Check-in, centering, Dirga Swasam, (DS) joint loosening before review of intake form; ask and answer questions, discuss and gather more information regarding goals, lifestyle, expectations. Fill in the gaps in the intake form. End with an affirmation to commit to self-care yoga therapy over 8 sessions.
Pranamaya: Taught Dirga Swasam and its benefits. Belly breathing promotes a sense of calm relaxation. It helps one to feel less shortness of breath and anxiety. It can also slow one’s heartbeat and lower or stabilize blood pressure.
Manomaya: Client appeared ready to commit to self-care that is directed inward vs outward (soccer). Seemed more relaxed at the end of the session with a better understanding of how we would move forward.
Vijnnanamaya: Brief Yoga Nidra- Tense & Release. Discussed its benefits.
As an intellectual being, the presentation of YT will need to include evidence-based research to underscore the value and validity of yoga therapy.
Anandamaya: Share the idea of YT and awareness, emotional regulation and states of being and how it may lead to bliss. Chant Om 3x in the beginning, and Shanti 3x at the end, explaining the words and meanings.
Yogic Philosophy: Addressed: Samadhi and the pockets of bliss we find throughout our lifetime; Moving our bodies through the practice to prepare ourselves for meditation.
Closed with a check-out, centering, Shanti Chanti.

Client/Group progress summary

Client appears more open to Yoga Therapy now that we've had time to discuss more in depth what it entails. Her goals remain the same. When we checked-out, she committed to YT over 8 sessions with self-care in mind.

Reflection and self-evaluation

It will be interesting to work with someone who is so cerebral. Spirituality has not been a big part of this client's life. She is a scientist with strong factual beliefs. As we move through future sessions I will ensure that I've replaced yogic terminology with colloquial terms. I will introduce yogic philosophy with this in mind. I won't hesitate to use the
Sanskrit for asanas as well as the English translations. Words like Sutra, ahimsa, etc I will introduce reminded her that I have a strong linguistic background and love to learn, hoping that she finds it to be a learning opportunity as well.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

To talk about the importance of recovery from an athlete's perspective. I have found some manuscripts that focus on all aspects of yoga, not just the asanas, training, playing, focus, and recovery. I think she'll find this information of value.
