Homework assignment to client/group

Practice: Waterfall breath - explore it at different times of the day, in different contexts. Notice how you feel before the practice, and then after the practice.

Practice: Vairagya. Pay attention to the things you carry with you during your day and at the end of the day. What are the experiences, emotions, thoughts that are challenging to let go of?

Awareness Practice

Sutra 1.12 - Abhyasa and Vairagya

Cat/Cow with theraband around the waist, knot at lumbar: encouraged awareness of the knot to "let the band win" in cow with the inhale, press the knot towards the ceiling in cat with the exhale (better connection to anterior and posterior pelvic tilt with breath)

Warrior 2 - first with front leg supported by block against the wall, then repeated with back leg supported by the wall, back arm holding wall anchored strap. Cues to allow the breath to provide the strength and the sweetness in the pose - where can you soften the muscular effort but hold the shape?

Triangle with back leg supported by the wall, back arm holding wall anchored strap. Cues to feel the movement of the breath through her core - the movement of the ribs laterally and posteriorly in particular.

Gentle bridging with block between thighs

Shavasana - at the wall, hammock supporting the pelvis

Pranayama: Waterfall breath

Client/Group progress summary

Trina - First week back. Reported feeling a little tired at check in, but enthusiastic for the session. Both participants moved more slowly with awareness today as they moved in and out of postures, and took longer pauses between each practice to notice sensations present. Trina asked a lot of questions, which I celebrated. She admitted she struggles with wanting to do things "the right way," so tuning into her body and focusing on what she needs vs. meeting outside expectations is a new exploration. Both reported feeling more energized yet calm after shavasana.

Christine - Slightly tamasic in physical and mental energy at check in. Both participants moved more slowly with awareness today as they moved in and out of postures, and took longer pauses between each practice to notice sensations present. Christine was not as vocal as Trina, but very engaged throughout the practice. Both reported feeling more energized yet calm after shavasana.

Nikki - unable to participate today

Reflection and self-evaluation

I find myself still aware of the desire of the client who pays me to teach these group sessions (Dr. Smith at Fettle & Fit) to integrate the wall as much as possible into asana, with my desire to support the needs of each individual participant. In an ideal group experience, there would be days I would not use the wall at all. A growth opportunity for me is to share with Dr. Casey the challenge I feel, and see if we can clarify the structure and expectations. If long-term she wants it more of a "yoga at the wall" class, I will adjust my structure accordingly (but after the case study).

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
