Activities

Similar to Session Two on 07/19/24, with these exceptions-
• Offered an inspirational quote from Mark A. Turnipseed’s Beautiful Stream Called Life, p 109.
“Each day you choose to show up for yourself you make this world a better place. Be unapologetically you, we need you.”
• Did not cover the kosh or biophsychosocial-spiritual models.
• Incoporated some movements to counter retropulsion by mindful step-backs, focusing on dorsiflexion on step-back and landing on the toes for more effective push off when stepping forward.
Taniuchi R, Harada T, Nagatani H, Makino T, Watanabe C, Kanai S. The power of instruction on retropulsion: A pilot randomized controlled trial of therapeutic exercise focused on ankle joint movement in Parkinson's disease. Clin Park Relat Disord. 2022;7:100151. Published 2022 Jul 1. doi:10.1016/j.prdoa.2022.100151
• Added balance challenge of lessening the hold of the chair back as appropriate during toe and heel taps.
• Pranayama. Included a breath count to inhales and exhales, starting with count of three and four.

Client/Group progress summary

In general the group is gaining stability and ease of movement with the dynamic balance sequence. Their concentration is sustained throughout the class. They seem comfortable sharing and discussing their experiences with the practices. They all connect to the rhythms of the natural breath with ease, finding greater ease and calm when doing so. Their power of observation and somatic awareness is growing.

Reflection and self-evaluation

One member of the group was able to calm down from the agitating side effects of a medication he takes by placing his hand on the sternum with fingertips touching kurma nadi at base of throat and bringing his awareness to the breath. The participants are beginning to build their own yoga toolboxes. I need to allow more time at the end of class for guided relaxation and reflection.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

Similar to this week. The Session Four focus will be on brain health with incorporation of movements and breathwork related to the topic. Introduce alternate nostril breathing. Include technique(s) for countering forward head posture which is pronounced in one participant.
