Homework assignment to client/group

Loaned client Master Sivananda's hatha class DVD to practice with as he expressed potential boredom with the standard Integral Level I class video, and Deborah Adele's book on the yamas and niyamas since he is focusing on making his life more positive and refining the negative.

Activities

Check-in
Centering/Gentle Warm-ups
Sun Salutations
Hatha - 1 pose from each category, 2 each in backwards and forwards bends, tested a couple gentle poses engaging upper and lower back, and client stated the lower back poses were fine, but felt the ache when the upper back was engaged (described as the inferior traps region), taught client adaptation of several poses.
Sutra discussion

Client/Group progress summary

Client arrived to say he woke up that morning with an ache in his lower upper back (rated 6 out of 10), he believes due to completing Integral level I standard classes 3x/week since last session. Even with this ache, he was very optimistic for the session and stated he "feels better, less toxic, and less anxiety" since last week.

Reflection and self-evaluation

Session went great, and client is doing great.
Client surprised me with having read Gurudev's entire Yoga Sutras book over the past week, and I had a plan to cover a few sutras related to the yamas/niyamas since he is focusing on refining his daily life. Changed the plan to having a brief discussion on some of what he read or found most meaningful. It felt good being able to shift the plan at the last minute and having a raja discussion instead of reviewing the planned sutras.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

Yin Hatha - Client stated he would like to do more stretching
Harmonium Chants - Client enjoys chanting/bhakti
