Activities

This report is for the sessions on 8/30 and 9/5
8/30
She was infected with COVID-19 and skipped 2 sessions, she informed me she recovered and was ready to practice yoga. She reported she was in bed for 10 days, and she was weak for the first 5 days, but she started feeling better, the body responded better after the 6th day by sleeping well and eating well. She said meditation and pranayama helped her keep positive. She said she practiced hatha for 30 minutes 3 days ago but it was too early to resume asana practice but she is ready to practice today. I suggested her not overdo especially after being sick, then explained the importance of self-care and the concept of Ahimsa.
As always, I led a few minutes of center practice to begin. Asana practice began with neck/ shoulder stretch, we normally practice this stretch seated, but she asked me if we could do standing which indicated her full recovery from COVID-19. Then sun salutations and long-held seated asanas.

15 minutes of guided body scan to relax her body and mind followed by brief meditation.

9/5

I asked Reina if there had been any changes physically and mentally since we met last time.
She reported that physically she was feeling much better than last week, eating well and her energy
level recovered almost 90% compared with pre-COVID-19. Today, her husband was not feeling well, experiencing vertigo and resting, she was concerned about his health as he has other health conditions.

We started with a brief meditation for a few minutes. Then we moved to a series of physical movements, neck/shoulder stretch, and sun salutation, then seated poses. These seated poses help reduce her LBP and improve her IBS conditions.

To end the session, I led yoga nidra and alternate nostril breathing.

Client/Group progress summary

Her regular practice has helped to improve her LBP, she is no longer seeing her physical therapist. Her daily prayer seated at the altar became her routine and she mentioned that she could feel the connection with her deceased family members.

Reflection and self-evaluation

Reina has been practicing hatha for 5 years and I see she enjoys her yoga practice, in addition to asana practice she now learned breathing practice and meditation. And she is benefiting from yogic teaching. She will join my fall semester of senior class which starts next week. She always asks me for some material to understand better whenever I explain teaching Raja yoga. She is a retired teacher, and she still likes learning more.
The plan is working well, and I think teaching her Yoga philosophy brought her the opportunity to learn more.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

I will continue to follow this care plan for the next several sessions. I will introduce new asana or wisdom teaching when I feel it’s appropriate.
