Activities

I began today’s session by asking Dan if he had experienced any new challenges or changes since our last meeting. He shared that the cool temperature and changes in atmospheric pressure had exacerbated his upper back pain. Additionally, he mentioned hiring a new lawyer for his lawsuit, which had caused frustration as he had to repeat the information he had already provided to his previous lawyer.
I reminded Dan that he already had tools for managing both physical pain and mental stress or frustration, specifically referring to the breathing exercises, gentle stretches, and meditation techniques we practiced together. And I showed finger-hold practice which helps manage emotions and stress.
I began the session with guided breathing practice followed by eye movement.
Then we moved to asana practice, beginning with neck/shoulder stretch and joint freeing, seated sun salutation, standing asanas including one leg standing and heel-to-toe walk for balancing, and chair pose for strengthening lower body muscles. We completed the asana practice with 3 seated poses, they are knee to chest spinal twist and child pose.
Then I introduced Ujai breath to release tensions and relax the nervous system.
The session ended with 15 minutes of yoga nidra with visualization to reduce pain in the upper back, it helped him to relax physically and mentally followed by brief silent meditation.

Client/Group progress summary

He maintains his progress physically and emotionally. I am seeing his understanding of the concept of acceptance and appreciation toward to current life, he stated there was something beyond my control and I have to live with it.

Reflection and self-evaluation

Every time I learn something new when he notices his physical condition worsened. The weather has been worsening his upper back pain despite the surgery was over 2 years ago. What I can offer is to teach him how he can manage when he faces those situations.
As I see his progress, I know he is learning a lot and the plan is working well.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

I will continue to follow this care plan for the next several sessions, additional asana will be introduced gradually to strengthen his physical body.
