Homework assignment to client/group

1. continue to walk outdoors daily.
2. begin day with tadasana and bouncy twists.
3. continue sound healing.
4. continue to avoid television.
5. mom to document the number of periods of agitation and about how long each lasts.

Activities

Reviewed homework activities; client has been walking daily with parent (usually mother) outside. Mother has been using 432Hz sound healing when she notices AN is becoming agitated; mother has stopped all TV outside of a few shows and no horror movies. Mother reports she has noticed a difference in AN's ability to stay calm.

Reviewed dance exercise in which AN uses her hips (activating sacral chakra) and grounds her feet (root chakra). AN has been dancing on her own; she brought her own music to the session so that we could all dance together.

Attempted to teach tadasana and bouncy twists, and AN was able to pay attention for about 10 mins before becoming distracted. Will continue to try to teach this practice to her.

Spoke with client about herself being a happy and healthy individual, and her mind containing thoughts that would make seeing her true self difficult.

Used this concept of the client's true nature being pure and healthy, when speaking with parents; client's parents with some difficulty in conceptualizing her behaviors as part of a disease process and not willful or a sign of misbehavior on her part.

Client/Group progress summary

Overall, AN is progressing well. The number of agitation episodes is reduced compared to the beginning. She still, mostly defers to her parents in the session; not able to stay alone for more than a few minutes, but is able to engage more with me and the behavioral health specialist who works with her as well. He is aware of the asana practice and plans to continue working with her on that.

Reflection and self-evaluation

I feel a bit challenged in working with AN, as it is clear that her family has a strong/large representation in her mind, so any work with her would require familial work. It was suggested to me by a peer to watch Mulan, the Disney movie (not the animation). This has been quite helpful, as it displays a strong sense of dedication to family which is an intrinsic part of Chinese culture. Through working with AN's parents, I hope to help her increase her own sense of positive regard and seeing herself as well in her true nature. It will be difficult to work with the parents outside of AN's presence and focus in on them, as AN has difficulties being alone.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

1. review homework and add on to bouncy twists/tadasana practice, perhaps with ha breath.
2. ask AN's parents to leave the room (and be in adjoining room with door between two rooms open) in order to work on client feeling a sense of wholeness in her mind and a sense of having a mind that is her own.
