| Final Client/Group Report | After seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake) Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report. |

| Adjustments and adaptations you made to your care plan, | Client has a limited attention span, so I had to consciously engage in minimal amounts of practices that would require extended concentration. I stuck with warm up practices in which she is actively engaging with her body while still able to remain grounded and aware of her surrounding. The client suffers from psychosis. The focus in our asana and our interventions were grounding. I did not engage in any practices in which the client or her parents were not comfortable. Her eyes were kept open and her mom was always present when we taught the asana practices. |
| Client/Group Goals | Client and her family's goals were to improve her emotional stability, decrease episodes of aggression, improve sleep. |
| Report briefly on each Kosha below | Progress toward wellness or worsening reported by the client/group or that you observed in the following areas |
| Physical level | The client had a slightly stooped posture and was lethargic at times during the assessment. She had not been sleeping well at night on a regular basis. Her diet was predominantly meat. I composed an asana practice which would allow her relieve tension in her body and hopefully allow for a more relaxed mental space. I focused on practices that grounded and were simple enough that she would be able to do them with ease. The client also used nature as a healing intervention, finding it helpful to walk in nature daily. We danced and the client engaged her hips while keeping her feet grounded on the floor, which helped tonify the first and second chakras. Our focus was the first and second chakra areas as the client wasn't grounded when we first started working together. |
| Energetic level | The client at times appeared to have low energy; she reported low energy when she woke up sometimes. However, she also had brief episodes in which she became agitated and was responding to hallucinations. There was an element of low grade bipolar disorder which was treated successfully with medication and the breath practices, which were grounding in nature, were helpful to the client in keeping her calm. She liked the breath practices. |
| Emotional | The client's emotions had brief periods of intensity; over time her emotions were more stable. Her thoughts about herself led to negative emotions about herself. Additionally, the mother and father's emotions about the client greatly affected her concept of self. Working with both the client and the parents on thinking of the client as having a nature that is free of disease and pure and her mind suffering from a disease that is separate from her, proved very useful. In calming the mind, the client was better able to feel in control of her emotions and to express her best self. |
| Intellectual / Sense of self | The client has poorly differentiate sense of self that has progressively improved; she was not able to access her own thoughts. She would defer to her parents whenever a question was asked, even when it seemed she disagreed. As time progressed, she was better able to assert her concepts, her ideas, and what she preferred. The client was successful in replacing negative thoughts with positive thoughts; it was helpful to use a short and simple affirmation of 'I am good.' Additionally, the use of affirmation cards was useful as well. |
| Spiritual orientation and support plan | The client is of Chinese origin and has a sense of Chinese spirituality. She had no specific practices that she did when we first began working together. This has gradually changed over time. We were able to use practices she already did, like puzzle making, and make them into meditative practices. Conventional meditation would not be advisable with this client as she has a strong aversion to being alone and has not expressed being comfortable with a typical sitting meditation practice. For the future, the client can hopefully continue to build on the asana, pranayama, and meditation practices that we used together. I plan to continue to work with her and so does her behavioral health specialist. |
| Additional Information | |
| Feedback received from client/group, anecdotal or written | Mother and father expressed profound gratitude for our work together; they especially like the ability to understand the client's experiences in terms of their own system of healing and energetics. Father states, "She's back to who she was. It's so nice to see her like this." |
| Sample of homework given between sessions (after initial homework) | 1. review asana practice. |
| Personal reflection from doing client/group. | |
| Rough estimate of time spent in preparation and follow up documentation per session | 120 mins or more |
| What you would change with benefit of hindsight | I would have had more frequent sessions with the client. |
| Questions, problems, areas in which you’d like more support | I would love to have more support around how to continue to help client using yoga and not overwhelming her with practices. I was very cautious to make the asana routine a very short one. |
| Did you enjoy your service? | Absolutely. This was very interesting to me; I really like working with Sarala, as she gave helpful ideas as to how to use yogic concepts in a way that the client would be able to understand and connect to a belief system of her own. |
