Homework assignment to client/group

Homework was to use self-care plan that was constructed today. Each family member would continue mental health f/u with therapist; Sara would continue to see me for medication management sessions. Therapists are in contact with me and have been made aware of our group. They can reach out with any questions regarding practices.

Activities

Opening sequence of diaphragmatic and heel breathing along with sound bowl healing.

1. did check in using bear as talking object. Entire group expressed great gratitude for the time together and sadness upon having to end. We did a group hug (with me virtually hugging on the screen).

Reflected on each person's experience. Talked about future plans for using self care techniques covered for each person's life. Most planned to use yoga nidra at night, as it was very helpful. It was by far, the favorite technique of most; Giovanni's favorite was tradak.

Each person constructed a self-care plan to be used in the future; this was written using paper and pens in the room. The client took the paper with them, with the understanding that the care plan could be adapted on a day to day basis, as schedules changed.

Each client retrieve the object from the corner table. Julia was very grateful as well. She attempted to gift me her object, which was a stuffed animal. It was respectfully declined and she agreed to keep him for me.

By request, yoga nidra was selected to be our closing practice.

Client/Group progress summary

The levels of stiffness in the neck, back, shoulder areas improved; they did not disappear and I think they may be contributed to by the ergonomic set up of the computer screen and keyboard for mom. She is aware to look into an ergonomic consultation--which is apparently offered by the county for which she works.

The level of anxiety has improved and sleep as well. Mom and Sara attend most days of work and school. Mom has not missed work in over a month and Sara has also continued to be able to wake up and go to school. Giovanni still sometimes has angry episodes, but they are fewer, less frequent and of lower intensity.

Reflection and self-evaluation

I do wish I could have been in the group in person. In the future, I plan to run consciousness groups in person. But using a computer allowed me to see clients that otherwise would not be able to be seen.

I really appreciated having the book, "Wheels of Life." Interesting thoughts regarding sound and resonance of energies between people. That is especially significant when doing group work.

It was very difficult to hear some of the stories that were told; lots of trauma in the family, but I felt the mind body practices that I taught helped to calm me. The breathing at the beginning, felt to me like the "om" at the beginning of a yoga practice, bringing me to the present and to the task at hand.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

This is our last session; will plan to see Sara as a medication management client once a month and other clients to see their therapists if they have one.
