Homework assignment to client/group

1. continue belly massages and practice three part breath twice a day; mom agrees that if 3 part breathing is too challenging for client, to go back to doing only diaphragmatic breathing.

Activities

Met with client and mother; mother described that they have been doing belly breathing together along with belly massage, and this is helpful for the night time when client is to go to sleep. She has also noted a decrease in his complaints of belly aches.

Reviewed client's progress thus far with mother. He has still had difficulty separating to go to school. Continues with daily anxiety, but complaints of belly pain and difficulty with sleep have improved--though still present. Eating well with some nausea during the day.

Today, reviewed diaphragmatic breathing and added in the upper torso, combining it to make a 3 part breath. Client was able to do this easily and mother did so as well. Instructed them to attempt to use this breath morning and night, after doing a belly massage.

Discussed with client using his Legos to construct a safe space for him and his mom. We had some blocks in the room and he was able to do so. Client advised to remember this space; he was able to move it to a table in the corner of the room. He looked at the space for about 2 minutes. I asked him if he could think of this safe space when he was getting ready to go to sleep at night, and also in the morning before school.

Played with blocks on side of the camera and allowed client to continue to play with his.

Spoke with mom (alone) regarding client's fear and mom expressed her own anxiety; advised she continue therapy.

Also spoke of client using building to help himself make a safe space both in his mind and on the outside. Mother agreed to help remind client of the safe space.

Reviewed (together) the three part breathing again and ended session

Client/Group progress summary

Client has made some progress in the area of improved belly pain; he himself was more active today than at that last session; possible he is acclimating to me and the surroundings of the clinic.

Reflection and self-evaluation

I am very grateful for the peer supervision/group mentoring sessions that we had in which I was advised about using building as a tool.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

1. teach crystal/food coloring demonstration and the concept of the crystal being pure (the true nature being pure) while the mind/emotions get muddied.

2. consider doing a body scan; not clear if this will work with a 7 yr old. Will try and if not, may consider using alternate nostril breathing.
