Homework assignment to client/group

1. client to write down situations that cause her distress in the table provided, with each column labeled
Situation, Emotions, Thoughts (with space to list underlying thoughts until core belief is found)

2. do other practices including brahmari breath.

Activities

1. reviewed homework. Discussed with client any questions she had.
2. taught brahmari breath to be used before bed. Client liked this breath and stated it makes her feel calm.
3. discussed prati pak shabavana and used CBT table to help her identify behaviors or situations that were concerning to her, her emotions related to the situation or event (manomayakosha), her thoughts related to the situation(vijnanamaykosha). Helped client trace back her thoughts to thoughts which underlie them until we reached her core belief about herself.

For example:
Situation is at dinner table client was told that people who are weak need to go to mental health care.

Emotions were anger, sadness, guilt

Thoughts were, I'm not strong, I am weak, I hate myself, I am not someone anyone can love/I am unlovable [this is the core belief]

We used the concept of prati pak shabavana as it relates to this core belief. The opposite thought that was used was "God Loves Me."

The client has a sense of there being a God who loves her.

Client selected to use this phrase as an affirmation/mantra to be repeated throughout the day.

Client/Group progress summary

1. Thus far, the client has reported some feeling of relaxation with practices done at home; she likes the idea of using the table and thinking about the opposite thoughts because it helps her feel like she doesn't have to feel the way she does.

Reflection and self-evaluation

1. I really like using CBT and prati pak shabavana. It seems to have a good effect on this client; I think the trick will be to have the client repeat the affirmation enough and see it work, so that she actually believes it is true. With so many years of negative experiences, it will be tough to break through to her core beliefs that were probably placed there to protect her from feeling that her family is to blame or perpetrating psychological violence.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

1. review homework.
2. consider teaching crystal/food coloring bowl presentation to further reinforce the concept that client is someone who is Love and Loved at her core, which is untouched by the comments of other or her emotions/thoughts.
