Client/Group progress summary

I have not seen the client since August. She has had a busy summer with family activities and volunteer work. Her joint pain has increased and the doctor prescribed hydroxychloroquine The pain went away for 2 weeks and has started back again. Because the medication may cause her to lose her eyesight (from its side effect), she is questioning whether she should continue to take the medicine if it does not work. Most pain comes from finger joints, especially her index fingers. She feels the pain of the knee and ankle joint when put pressure on them.

Reflection and self-evaluation

The client has declined since I met her 2 months ago. When she questioned the usefulness of the medication, I asked if she thought that the medication did not work, or she did too much for others and did not have time for herself. She admitted that she volunteered to chaperone middle school kids every day; that is a lot, and I think, put a lot of stress on her body. My thought is that she has been doing a lot for others and therefore did not have time for self-care and rest. No medication is going to help if she does not change how she prioritizes her time and energy. We discussed about ahimsa (self-compassion) and brahmacharya (right use of energy). She planned to discuss with her doctor about the medicine next week. I asked her to let the doctor know about her daily activities. I suggest that the client keeps track of her daily activities. I hope that this will help her to see how much time she spends taking care of herself versus others.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session
