Activities

I began today’s session by asking Dan if he had experienced any new challenges or changes since our last meeting.
Dan reported that his Bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPap) machine for his sleep apnea stopped working and he had to use CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine until he was able to get Bipap machine. He said it was not comfortable using CPAP machine as he has been using Bipap machine over 15 years, without using these machines his blood pressure goes up and he feels fatigue.
I led a few minutes of breathing practice and eye movement practice. Then we moved to physical practice, joint freeing on the chair. After that, balancing practice includes heel-to-toe walking and one-leg standing, forward bending while holding the back of the chair, eagle arm, and cow face. For practice on the mat, supine spinal twist, sphinx pose.
The session ended with 15 minutes of yoga nidra to relax his body and mind, followed by a brief meditation.

Client/Group progress summary

Dan likes Netra Viyayaman (eye movement practice). In addition to the physical benefits of strengthening eye muscles and toning optical nerves, this practice also helps him feel mental relaxation. He said that it is a good meditation tool for him.
He also enjoys eagle arm and cow face pose which helps alleviate his back pain.

Reflection and self-evaluation

Dan’s sleep apnea is managed using a BiPap machine; therefore, I did not address this in our session. He shared his experience of how sleep apnea impacts his daily life. I plan to find out more about this condition and how to work with clients who have sleep apnea.
Dan’s case is more complicated; some of the breathing practices may not be suitable for him due to his choking and coughing.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

I will continue to follow this care plan for the next several sessions and additional asanas will be introduced gradually to strengthen his physical body.
