Yogic wisdom: non-attachment, Praktipaksha Bhavana (positive thought to replace negative one)

Client/Group progress summary

The client has recovered from the disappointment. She felt better after the previous session. She hosted a family dinner the day before and even though things did not turn the way she wanted to be, she practiced non-attachment and was able to enjoy the gathering. We discussed praktipaksha bhavana – focus on positive thoughts – something that bring her peace and joy. The client tends to hold stress on her right hip; her adductor is tight. When sitting cross legged, the right knee is higher than the left knee, although there is no pain or discomfort of the right hip. Her balance is better on the right leg. The client mentioned that the sciatic nerve on the left leg was affected by past lower back surgery. Because of this, she has lost the sensation of her left foot (she can feel it, but not as well as the right foot) and this likely affects her balance.

Reflection and self-evaluation

Through conversations, I gained additional information about the client’s physical condition. Lesson learned here is to continue asking questions and not only rely on the intake form. It is interesting that her balance is better on right leg (with tight adductor) than the left.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
