she had increased alternate nostril breathing to 2 minutes, she likes the neck rolls, shoulder rolls and hip rolls in the morning. She continues to go on morning walks with her husband
She continues to read the Yamas and Niyamas book and we discuss one topic, this time it was tapas
Activities
M.K arrived to our in-person yoga therapy session and was asking if we could do our session outside, because it was a warm fall day and she would much rather be outside than inside. I have never thought a yoga therapy session outside but I thought it was a good opportunity for a new experience.
We brought the mats and the props outside on a grassy surface surrounded by trees the sun was already a bit lower and the sun light was coming thought the trees it was very beautiful with the different colors of the leaves, there was a slight warm breeze and it felt just right.
M.K talked about her disappointment with the elections and we talked about the chapter she was reading on tapas, she states that the author of the book talked about sometimes when a field is burned after wards the new little plants are coming up and something new grows. She also states that she still wants to get more involved with community work again.
We started out with centering and breathing practice, arm raises, the arm raises with spinal rotation.
neck rolls ,shoulder rolls, tree pose, hip circles
table top, with half dog then down dog
sun bird, cat cow in table top.
sphinx pose then cobra and bow pose
advasana, savasana.
deep relaxation in a reclining position with the bolster and one block underneath to elevate one side.
Client/Group progress summary
She reports her disappointment over the elections but she states that she realizes that she wants to focus on the small thing she can be helpful with for example in her community work. She reports that her breathing practice is helpful to experience less anxiety.
I liked her suggestion of practicing outside, she enjoyed it and it was a new experience for me which led to a very enjoyable yoga therapy session.
She is building her daily routine and she states that she is looking forward to it now.
She continues to want to build upper body strength but she also values the expiration of the different yoga poses and how they feel in her body that has a different anatomy after her surgeries.
She enjoys the yogic teaching and the reflexion on it.
Reflection and self-evaluation
I was happy that I was able to accommodate my clients which to taking the practice outside and the different sensations of the experience. I also felt inspired by this different environment and we both felt very relaxed after practicing together. It was a very nice afternoon session and felt very peaceful.
discussing tapas was very helpful and we decided that she could pick the next chapter she wants to read in the Yamas and Niyamas book, she liked the flexibility of this.
it was a good teaching for me to not be afraid of accommodating and making a new plan in the moment.
Final Client/Group Report
After seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
