Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.

Adjustments and adaptations you made to your care plan,

Regarding client's challenges with balancing, I began with a simple alternate-leg balancing practice using a chair for stabilization and supports and squats to strengthen upper legs. From there I added lunges and a 'rolling tippy-toe' practice to support client in cultivating better balance, proprioceptive awareness of the structural kinetic chain.
I also added in a mantra, "Chin up!" Client loved that.
We also agreed that he could practice these balancing exercises in the pool, which he's done faithfully over the past few months. I believe he's receiving more benefit by practicing in the pool rather than in his home using a chair or counter for support.

Client/Group Goals

Client has made notable and noticeable progress regarding his Dropped Head Syndrome. During our work together, client's chiropractor has been monitoring his progress using a A "Flexicurve," a non-invasive tool to assess the curvature of the spine. She has noted a 9-degree improvement since she first started measuring in early August.
Client's wife has also commented on his visible improvement.
I made no revision of goals, simply expanded upon what we were learning along the way and what was obviously benefiting the client.

Report briefly on each Kosha belowProgress toward wellness or worsening reported by the client/group or that you observed in the following areas
Physical level

Through steady and determined effort, client's posture has improved as has his ROM in his shoulders and balance as well. He's lifting his head more and making better eye contact now.

Energetic level

Client's breathing is noticeably deeper and he's integrating the various breathing practices that he enjoys most into his day. He's calmer and more grounded. He sighs a lot, which I take to mean he's able to relax more and let go of things. Mentioned re-reading an old favorite, "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff". We agreed that extended and mindful exhales can help him do just that.

Emotional

Client is learning to take time to connect within. He appreciates the concept of the Witness - simply stepping back and observing what's going on within as he considers external conditions and circumstances.
At times, he's been faced with some challenging situations with his family. While he's been rattled and frustrated, he seems more resolved to keep his peace as he works his way through whatever he's facing. He finds that breathing helps him do just that. Pause, breathe, then choose from there.

Intellectual / Sense of self

Client has a strong sense of self. I sense some self-doubt that he masks with a cheery confidence at times. When this has happened, I've sensed some defensiveness, I've probed a little then get a glib reply, 'that's the way it is' etc.

Spiritual orientation and support plan

Client is not overtly 'spiritual' he appreciates the wisdom teachings of the Sutras and Yoga Philosophy including the Witness, Contentment and Non-attachment.

Additional Information
Feedback received from client/group, anecdotal or written

Client has repeatedly expressed his gratitude for our work together. He states that I've helped him more that his osteopath and chiropractor have. I thanked him and noted that they have their focus. As for me and yoga therapy, I focus on the whole-person with a Kosha-based approach. We agreed that makes all the difference.

Sample of homework given between sessions (after initial homework)

Here’s a follow-up from our last session. I’m so glad you’re finding some benefit at the pool. Keep it up! Regarding your sleep patterns and bed time, just a friendly reminder to set your alarm for 11 PM. Turn off all electronics too.

Personal reflection from doing client/group.
Rough estimate of time spent in preparation and follow up documentation per session20 - 30 minutes on average
What you would change with benefit of hindsight

I think I would pursue the Raja teachings more with him. I think there was a lot of value in what he learned. I would have probed more. I didn't because he was focused on the physical aspects of our work together.

Questions, problems, areas in which you’d like more support

None come to mind right now.

Did you enjoy your service?
