Activities

The client was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and completed six rounds of chemotherapy in July. His goal is to use yoga to support his health, mind, and body connection. He is active (exercise at the gym regularly). Based on my observations during the first session, the client does not have physical limitations and has good energy levels. The client is concerned about the uncertain future (the chance of cancer coming back); this has caused anxiety and restlessness.

Yogic wisdom – contentment, surrender

Client/Group progress summary

I have not seen the client for the past 2 months. His schedule, family visits and holidays made scheduling a session challenging. He mentioned that he has not gained his strength and stamina back since he completed the cancer treatment. He is still anxious about the possibility that the cancer can come back. He started to see a therapist about this. Pranayama has been helpful in calming the mind when he is anxious. He also adopts gratitude thinking to ease stress and anxiety. We discussed contentment and surrender as well as Serenity Prayer (letting go of things that he cannot control, i.e., the future). We also discussed Koshas in relation to stress management; how movement and breathing can reduce stress. The Global assessment score remains the same as when we started back in August.

Reflection and self-evaluation

The client needs support for his mental health. I am glad to hear that he seeks help from a therapist who continues to provide support into the future. I recommend that he join a yoga class to support physical and mental well-being. There are options for joining a class in the local studio or a virtual class that I teach on Monday evening (if his schedule permits). We discussed spiritual connection. Although the client is not religious, he feels connected to nature and the world. He lives in an area surrounded by nature (forest, wildlife). Conversations with his spouse also support his spiritual connection.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
