Reflection and self-evaluation

Email I forwarded to my friend/therapist the day after this session:

I must share with you my experience, which caught me off-guard and was most troubling. As soon as we sat down together and I opened my mouth to speak, I believe I had a panic attack or trauma reaction. Not sure exactly what happened, but it was most uncomfortable and disturbing for me. Sitting there I became aware that I felt disembodied / dissociated, my heart was racing, felt like my head was about to explode and my mind went blank. I think my face was flushed as well. I got home last night and my mind was reeling. None of my self-soothing techniques worked. I spent the night tossing and turning, etc.
I had a similar experience last fall when I gave my final presentation for my YT Integrations module - wasn’t as severe perhaps because it was on Zoom.
Surely this is old stuff showing up. As I’ve learned, when painful circumstances show up, they’re ready for healing. Not sure what that means right now.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
