Presenting Problemback pain and anxiety while driving
Physical

55 yo nurse how is in good general health. She has some back pain ,due to her work ,but no acute back problem. She recently started having panic attacks ,while driving on the interstate .She practices yoga in a group once a week.

Client/Group goalsimprove back pain and anxiety
Energetic

She has good energy in general but recently her tendency is towards rajasic energy. She thinks it might have to do with her going through menopause .At work she gets easily overwhelmed with the amount of work she has to do.She used to be a bit more relaxed about the situation at work .

Emotional

She has increased anxiety and at times she has a tendency towards depression. She is feeling overwhelmed with the situation at work and the ongoing problems in the world. She then has more trouble sleeping. She has trouble getting out of bed in the morning .

Spiritual orientation and needs

She was raised catholic , she used to go to church and she liked the community .Her children enjoyed the church activities when they where younger but now they are very critical towards the church. She also became critical towards the church when the sexual abuse that happened towards children came to light. she is open to learn about yoga philosophy .

Intellectual / Sense of self

She often feels not good enought. She has a tendency towards perfectionism. She will beat herself up ,when things she had planned to do, don't get done .Her children are sometimes not very respectful towards her.Her husband is a professor and is the " intellectual in the household" so the children sometimes look down on her. She could use improvement of her sense of self, because she was also a really good student and is not less intelligent than her husband.

Yoga philosophy/wisdom research reference(s)

Sutra 1.13 Effort towards steadiness of mind is practice .

My clients basic disposition was always steady and grounded. As she is getting older and going through menopause, her anxiety has increased and her body is starting to have more problems.I think this sutra will resonate with my client, as this is was she always did in life, steady practice .Now she has gotten out of the habit a little, because work and focus has become a bit more difficult .I think creating a grounding routine will help to calm her mind.

Scientific research reference(s), why chosen, how you plan to incorporate 1-3

Safety is to foremost concern, to make sure that our practice does not make her back pain worse .She does have a PCP and she does not have a diagnosis of any acute back problem.I will share the yoga research on back pain with her.

Questions for Mentor

I will ask questions as we talk about my sessions with my clients

Care PlanOutline should be a practice adapted to the needs of that client/group, including:
  • Check in, centering, balanced hatha yoga set considering contraindications, relaxation (with imagery as appropriate),
  • balanced pranayama considering contraindications, meditation/centering.
  • Please include at least one suggestion from Karma, Bhakti, Raja, or Jnana Yoga tailored for this client/group.
  • Over time, we want to see something from each branch, selected, adapted and re-framed appropriately. Tools from each module should be used (not on each client/group – but overall)
The outline should show the sequence of practices as you plan to offer them.
Your care plan proposal should be approved by the mentor before session 2 if possible, or 3 if approval is delayed by mentor.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Report briefly on each Kosha belowProgress toward wellness or worsening reported by the client/group or that you observed in the following areas
