Homework assignment to client/group

I assigned the following asanas as daily practice.

1. Supine Spinal Twist
2. Legs on the wall
3. Breathing Practice (alternate nostril breathing, 3-parts breathing)
4. Self body scan and savasana

Activities

I began the session by asking Mark, Ugyen, and Terry if there were any changes since we last met also asked if they were able to practice alternate nostril breathing, which I asked them to practice at previous assessment session.

I led the breath awareness practice and moved to a quick body scan on the mat to observe each part of the body and acknowledge any physical and mental sensations.
suggesting inhaling healing energy and removing negativity at every breath.
Then, I invited them to a seated position and led them through three rounds of a neck and shoulder stretch that resembled a seated Tai Chi flow.

For asana practice, I led the following asanas to address their conditions.
3 rounds of slow-paced sun salutation as I am focusing on slowing down
Sphinx pose
Child pose
cat-cow stretch – to notice the benefits after forward/back bending
Supine spinal twist ( 2+ minutes each side)
Legs on the wall (3 minutes)
As a final relaxation, I guided a body scan and yoga nidra and 5 minutes of Savasana as a stillness practice.
All three were able to follow the poses above. I instructed Terry on modifying the Sun Salutation and told him to listen to his body with each movement.

To understand Yoga Sutra 1.2, I showed pictures of Central Park's lake and explained that by removing the waves we can clear our mind.

Client/Group progress summary

This was the first session after the assessment. The only response was that the alternate nostril breathing practice of 5 mins 2/day helped calm their mind. This is good progress as all 3 clients are not paying attention to their breathing throughout the day.

Reflection and self-evaluation

The previous group case study was for the group with arthritis, all clients had the same conditions even though the areas of symptoms were different.
But the clients in this group have different physical conditions, I realized I have to observe from different points of view.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

I will continue to follow this care plan for the next several sessions. I may modify or add other practices based on their feedback.

They live a busy lifestyle and often forget how to breathe or maintain good posture to keep energy flow. I will remind them about breathing and posture
through the class for them to pay more attention to them.
