Homework assignment to client/group

Work on activation of the transverse abdominus throughout the day. Client claims he has been avoiding his hollow body holds for karate and prefers to do what I taught him in terms of constructive rest pose with gentle core activation. We are focusing on activation of core throughout the day and practicing one of the other things we did for at least 10 minutes a day (pranayama, asana, meditation).

Activities

Kosha explanation and check in, guided breath awareness, introduction of sutra 1.2 (Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind-stuff), pelvic tilts, apanasana, supine windshield wipers, cat/cow, thread needle, neck warm up, chin tucks, Low Lunge, bridge, sphinx, chair - forward fold flow, high lunge, wide legged forward fold, child's pose, gentle lying twist (bothered him so we didn't do it), reclined pigeon, constructive rest with transverse abdominus activation.
Jnana Yoga related invitations to sensory inquiry sprinkled throughout.
Then, we moved to relaxation with guided imagery. Viparita Karani with bolster under back. Mantras were offered during viparita karani (I surrender to peace).
Pranayama: Dirga, Sama Vritti, Nadi Shodhana (we did try it, he wasn't crazy about it but was willing to keep going)
Inner flame of the heart meditation.
Raja yoga discussion: Kriya Yoga.

Client/Group progress summary

The appointment went quite well. This client is a great fit for what I like to teach and practice. I can tell he is very stressed, however, and reported at the end of our session that he'd like to work on his anxiety more, which he did not mention at the beginning of the session, so I'm hoping we are building a rapport.

Reflection and self-evaluation

I felt a little off in my teaching, I am certainly paying the price for not teaching during the week any longer. Extra sadhana and positive routines throughout the day are going to be very important for me in order to serve optimally.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

Next session will be much like this one, though it will be tailored to providing tools to deal with his anxiety and stress.
