Homework assignment to client/group

Throughout the week, take note of a moment when you noticed yourself being less than truthful—with yourself or someone else.

Journal about what stopped you from speaking or honoring your truth in that moment. Ask: “What was I trying to protect?” and “What would it look like to live more truthfully here?”

Use this for discussion next week.

Activities

Centering (5 min): Grounding in either a seated or supported position. Invited everyone to arrive fully, connecting to their breath and body. Set a collective intention around truth—being honest with ourselves about how we feel in this moment.

Discussion (10 min): Welcomed everyone back. Asked each participant to share one thing they noticed from last week's practice or reflections on Ahimsa. Transitioned into introducing Satya, the second Yama, and explain its translation as truthfulness.
Ask: “What does being truthful—especially with yourself—look like in your daily life?” Invited participants to share.

Yoga Philosophy (10-12 min): Got further into the meaning of Satya with the participants. Emphasize that truthfulness is not just about speaking the truth to others, but about aligning with our inner truth, acknowledging our feelings, and honoring our needs. Used examples from everyday examples where Satya might show up—like saying yes when we mean no, or denying our own discomfort to avoid conflict.
Ask: “What’s one area in your life where you feel you could be more honest with yourself or someone else?”

Breathwork (10 min): Briefly revisited 3-Part Breath to reconnect. Introduced Bhramari (Bee's Breath) as a tool for self-regulation and quiet introspection.

Asana (20 min): Began seated, offering options for chairs or mats depending on ability. Guided a gentle flow that invites awareness and self-honesty—encouraging participants to notice where they may be pushing too hard or holding back. Include mindful movement such as Cat/Cow, Seated Side Bend, Seated Twist, and a gentle standing sequence with Warrior 1, Trikonsana and Pyramid Pose (with or w/o Chair for support).

Relaxation (10 min): Guided Meditation around Truthfulness and Self-Awareness. Invite participants to reflect on what they’ve been denying or avoiding, and gently make space for that truth to emerge—without judgment.

Closing (5 min):
Open the floor for any questions or reflections. Introduce the homework:

Client/Group progress summary

Today's session was much more fluid and the reception to the homework was really good. Had really open and honest dialogues about Ahimsa and what came up for them during the week for the homework, and lots of good interaction with today's conversation prompts.

The asana portion of today's class went more smoothly with the planned sequence and the option for the use of chairs or not.

Reflection and self-evaluation

I was more prepared for today's class and in knowing the ability of my participants, it made it easier to plan in advance. I enjoy leading the conversation prompts and seeing what each of them come up with and share.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

Next week's session will be similiar in format to today's session but with a focus on Asteya (non-stealing).
