| Activities | Centering (5 min): Grounding practice. Participants were guided into a comfortable seated position, where they were invited to take a few deep breaths, releasing tension from their bodies and calming their minds. I set the tone for the session by encouraging them to set an intention around non-attachment for the practice, with the idea of letting go of what no longer serves them. Discussion (10 min): We opened the session with a discussion surrounding last week's homework assignment. I gave everyone a chance to share an observation from the prior week's homework on Brahmacarya and ask any questions. Yoga Philosophy (10-12 min): We then transitioned into a group conversation on Aparigraha—exploring how non-attachment plays a role in creating emotional balance and reducing suffering in our daily lives. I clarified how non-attachment does not mean we do not care, but I emphasized being not attached to outcomes or expectations and releasing control. I went around the room and asked each participant if they felt comfortable sharing something that they felt attached to that they would like to let go of. Breathwork (10 min): I guided the group through a gentle 3-Part Breath, encouraging participants to observe their breath without attachment to any particular way of breathing. The focus was on being present with the breath and noticing any areas of tension or resistance in the body. The group was then invited to let go of any tightness or expectations around their breath. Asana (20 min): For the asana portion, we focused on gentle, restorative postures to support the theme of non-attachment. I led the group through warm ups, Seated Cat/Cow, Seated Warrior 2 w/ a sequence through Peaceful Warrior and Extended Side Angle. As we moved through these poses, I encouraged participants to be aware of any resistance they might feel in their bodies and reminded them to let go of any attachment to perfection in the poses. We also practiced a gentle forward fold and moderate spinal twist, allowing the body to release tension and the mind to let go of overthinking. Relaxation (10 min): We concluded the session with a guided body scan relaxation. Participants were offered staying seated in their chair or to come down to their mats. I encouraged letting go of any attachment to outcomes or expectations of their practice. I guided them to release any tension held in the body and to simply observe the sensation of relaxation without trying to “fix” or change anything. The focus was on surrendering to the present moment and letting go of the need for control. Closing (5 min): We wrapped up the session with a brief discussion about how Aparigraha can be integrated into daily life. I reminded the group that non-attachment is an ongoing practice and encouraged them to continue observing moments of attachment throughout the week. Participants were invited to share any final thoughts about today's session and the series in general. |
| Client/Group progress summary | The group really seemed to enjoy the series overall, and I appreciated their commitment to attending all five sessions. It was clear they all gained something from each week’s focus, and I could see the progression in their practice as the weeks went by. It was a pleasure guiding them through this journey, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with such a dedicated group. |
| Reflection and self-evaluation | Reflecting on the series, I’m proud of how each session built upon the prior one, creating a natural flow and deeper understanding for the group. I feel the material I chose was accessible and well-suited to their needs, helping them connect with each Yama in a meaningful way. I noticed my confidence growing with each session, especially in fostering open discussions and adapting the practice to support their individual journeys. Overall, I’m grateful for the experience and excited to continue refining my approach in future groups. |
| Final Client/Group Report | After seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake) Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report. |
