Homework assignment to client/group

DD was invited to practice Nadi Shodhana for 3–5 minutes daily and to spend time in a supported heart-opening posture a few times during the week. She was also encouraged to journal briefly around the idea of softening without pushing or abandoning herself, using the prompt: “Where can I allow a little more ease?” and "Where can I soften without abandoning myself?"

Activities

This session focused on nervous system regulation and gentle emotional integration, as grief and relational stress were more present this week. We began with grounding and orientation practices to establish safety, followed by slow, steady breathwork to support regulation. Nadi Shodhana was introduced in a simple, accessible way to help balance the nervous system. Gentle, supported heart-opening postures were offered to encourage emotional softening without overwhelm. Slow, breath-led movement was used to help DD stay connected to her body while allowing emotions to arise and pass naturally. The session ended with a compassion-based meditation to support self-kindness and steadiness.

Client/Group progress summary

DD was able to remain present with emotional material while staying regulated. Although tenderness and sadness surfaced, she did not become overwhelmed and was able to use her breath as a steady anchor. She demonstrated increased awareness of how emotional stress shows up in her body and expressed feeling both supported and grounded by the end of the session.

Reflection and self-evaluation

This session required a thoughtful, gentle approach, as grief and relational stress were very present. I focused on staying within my role as a yoga therapist by offering mindfulness-based support rather than moving into counseling. When I introduced external resources such as Al-Anon, I did so carefully and framed them as optional support. Throughout the session, I closely observed DD’s nervous system responses and adjusted the practices as needed to maintain a sense of safety and containment. Going forward, I will continue to refine my ability to pace emotional work appropriately and support presence without encouraging overprocessing.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

The next session will focus on integration and consolidation of skills. Emphasis will be placed on identifying which practices feel most supportive and empowering for DD, and on helping her build confidence in using these tools independently. Movement and breathwork will be woven together into a simple, sustainable practice that supports both shoulder care and nervous system regulation.
