Homework assignment to client/group

To continue focusing on nourishing her body with whole foods that she enjoys. Also to continue approaching her food choices from a positive perspective of "what can I add to my diet to take care of myself" versus "what do I need to stop eating"?

To continue dirga swasam with imagery: inhaling the color of light that is most healing, exhaling out the "dark smoke" of what is no longer needed.

To feel free to reach out to me prior to our next session if needed.

Activities

I guided the client through the 7 TRE exercises, which I prefer to call "practices" due to most individual's associations with the term "exercise," followed by two rounds of shaking, the first lasting 5 mimutes and the second lasting 8 minutes, with a 5 minute break/rest in between. As we went through each practice I encouraged slow moving, slow breathing, and slow thinking.

Then I offered a guided shavasana with a focus on pratyahara, followed by yoga nidra.

Client/Group progress summary

The client arrived to the session in a state of overwhelm - in describing through the lens of the gunas, I would say she had experienced so much rajas, she was in a state of tamasic shutdown. One of her nieces had unexpectedly and tragically passed, and she felt that she was carrying the weight of supporting the entire family while not having the space to personally grieve. Yet she had not canceled - she wanted some space, support and connection.

I chose to abandon my session plan, and offer TRE as a bodymind practice to allow her to release some of what she was carrying. At the end of yoga nidra she reported feeling "lighter" and less overwhelmed.

Reflection and self-evaluation

This was most definitely not the session I had planned, but I felt it offered benefit and support to where she was at the moment. Again the fact she showed up as opposed to reaching out ahead of time and canceling indicated to me it was important to offer a safe space for her to breathe and be.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
