| Homework assignment to client/group | To continue practicing the embodied Lord's Prayer sun salutation. If she likes, she could even explore embodying Psalm 23 through surya namaskar. Encouragement was to spend as much time with each asana and each phrase of the prayer as needed before moving to the next. To continue dirga swasam with the imagery of healing light - and adding self-touch as needed. (Example: before her meetings with her boss, if she finds herself concerned about finding the "right words," she might place one or both hands near the vishuddha chakra and encourage softness and openness in that space, and add a prayer for wisdom and clear communication.) To print and frame one picture from her nature walk to hang in her bedroom.. |
| Activities | Began the session with a check in, during which the client reported she has also begun a 40 Day "Soul Fast" - where she gives up something to "make more room for God." (similar to Lent possibly?) Also reported results of previous tests - diagnosis of erosive gastritis, which is giving her more incentive to continue to make nourishing and healing food choices. She stated that she is feeling more "driven," noticing a connection between eating better, feeling better, thinking better, and having more energy. Client also reported beginning work on her vision board, stating that she is "dreaming again." Encouraged her to continue building her board and filling it with her images as a way to practice Pratipaksha Bhavana. She has not yet hung any of her images from her nature walk in her bedroom - encouraged her to do this as part of her homework. She has also been more mindful of what she is listening to during her commute. She has talked with her best friend who lives in Northern Virginia every morning on her commute to work for 8 years. While she loves her best friend, she stated that her best friend is negative, and in some ways puts her down - which she attributes to her friend having challenges with her own health and relationships. She decided this week to actually stop calling her friend every morning, and she has felt relief in not talking to her during the commute. Instead she has been listening to her Bible app and just taking in nature during her drive. Performed four rounds of the Embodied Lord's Prayer - encouraged her to take it even slower, pausing at each pose and taking as many breaths as felt comfortable before transitioning to the next. Also encouraged her to be just as present in the transitions as in the practice of each asana. Revisited Ardha Matsyendrasana and Supta Matsyendrasana, Ananda Balasana Introduced the practice of Samana Vayu mudra, encouraging her to hold the mudra at least two minutes, performing it up to three times/day to support balancing her digestive system. |
| Client/Group progress summary | Client seemed more sattvic and was engaged with the session. She is continuing to make choices to prioritize her self care and that support her continued healing. She also shared about continued positive interactions and conversations with her partner, partner's mother and partner's sons. She still has some nights where sleep is disturbed from her partner's acting out of his dreams. |
| Reflection and self-evaluation | Decided not to introduce Agni Sara as client seems to have established a consistent practice with Dirga Swasam and is enjoying the movement of the Embodied Lord's Prayer and Psalm 23. Even though I didn't offer a variety of pranayama or raja to this client - focusing more on Dirga Swasam and Pratipaksha Bhavana, she seems to have really connected with these practices, and continuing with them is very doable for her. Less can be more when the client continues to practice it. |
| Final Client/Group Report | After seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake) Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report. |
| Plan for next session | This was our last scheduled session. Would like to check in with the client perhaps monthly, depending on her schedule and interest level. |
