Presenting Problemhistory of achilles tendonitis
Physical

50 yo female child psychiatrist ,with a history of achilles tendonitis and a hx of high blood pressure that is controlled with medications and night sweats from being peri menopausal, this is also treated with medication. She does cardio work out about 5 times a week. She saw an orthopedic doctor for her tendonitis , he shoed her some stretches but she is interested in learning more in yoga therapy. She is a runner but now exercises mostly in the gym and on the treadmill.

Client/Group goalsshe was to work on stretching and mindfulness
Energetic

She describes her energy as fairly good but does sometimes feel exhausted because she is working and carries a lot the load in terms of caring for her family and parents as well as working.

Emotional

She is feeling anxious and stressed at times and would like to work on mindfulness in her daily live.

Spiritual orientation and needs

Her parents are practicing hinduism. She occasionally goes to the temple with them but she is not interested in spiritual practices herself at this time

Intellectual / Sense of self

She is a very driven and a perfectionist. She is a bit anxious but overall optimistic. She is the caretaker in the family. Her husband is an boy/gyn physician and works long hours, so she is in charge of all the childcare and family needs. She works as a physician as well but not full-time so everything in household management falls on her. Her sense of self is intact .She is able to reflect on herself and has good judgment of herself.

Yoga philosophy/wisdom research reference(s)

I was using the yogic philosophy ahimsa , not violence to honor your body and always pay attention to your bodies needs.I wanted to work with this because I feel she injured her achilles tendon maybe by not listening to her body and it is an important lesson to not go over your limits.

Scientific research reference(s), why chosen, how you plan to incorporate 1-3

To teach breathing and to help her with stress management I am suggesting alternate nostril breathing because it is calming and crosses the hemisphere which is helpful in integrating body and mind.

Reference : Science of breath , a practical guide by Swami Rama, Rudolph Ballestine, MD and Alan Hymes MD.

yoga postures: I would work with a combination of strengthening and stretching to balance her tightness in the hamstrings.for example to work on lounges and hight lunges with blocks to work on stetting with figure four and yoga steps.
I would ask her if she has gotten recommendations from her doctor for her.
I found these poses on tummy, and I think I could use some of these.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
