Homework assignment to client/group

Seated or standing cow/cat, forward fold, dynamic twists; supine pelvic tilts (daily). Breath awareness and/or slow deep breathing. Client will be in Virginia Beach next week. Will see if we can meet in person.

Activities

Client has been exercising at least 10 minutes each day using weights or yoga poses. Has been walking twice a week. She states that lots of walking/lifting aggravates her back and foot. Discussed the importance of wearing her back brace to support her large abdomen and enlarged uterus. Her husband objects to this because he sees it as a form of "cheating" instead of strengthening abdominal muscles herself. Talked about how her issue is more complicated that just trying to strengthen abdominal muscles. Her body looks/feels permanently pregnant which is not good for her back.
Reviewed supine pelvic tilt exercise for abdominal muscles and as a prep for bridge pose.
Asana: Complete practice of chair poses; seated and standing strap work to relieve shoulder tightness; supine stretches.
Pranayama: breath awareness and slow deep breathing
Also reviewed safe knee alignment for daily life activites.

Client/Group progress summary

This client has a history of struggling to take care of herself because she is so busy caring for her husband and two children - and anyone else who comes to her asking for help. However, she is beginning to do better with looking at her weekly schedule ahead of time and planning when/where she can exercise and engage in other self-care activities.

Reflection and self-evaluation

I do well with annamaya kosha with this client, but not very well with the other koshas. I need to pay attention and make better plans for what I can offer the client.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

Will teach brahmari breath for anxiety/stress management.
Will discuss the kleshas of attachment and aversion to help her manage feelings about "how things used to be."
Will also do some sort of physical practice depending on how she is feeling and what is most needed.
