Homework assignment to client/group

Add the new asanas to the routine she has been doing daily. Attend chair yoga class at least once a week.
Breathwork as needed (energizing or calming)
Continue working with pratipaksha bhavana as she has been doing regularly.
Any artistic work she feels drawn to do.
Daily Jesus Prayer mantra, plus formal meditation practice divided into 15-min segments

Activities

Reviewed Breath of Joy and taught "Ha" breath for energizing practices.
Reviewed slow, deep breathing. She is doing better, much less strain.
She has been doing asana on her own: cow/cat; bird dog; and reclining shoulder stretches. Today, I added supine strap stretches for hamstrings with hip circumduction; slow reclining twists with feet on the floor; cobbler pose. All of these to address tightness in her hips.
Discussed the book The Way of the Pilgrim and the Jesus Prayer as practices that appeal to her at this point. She has started using the Jesus Prayer as a daily mantra all day as she goes about her activities.
Discussed her formal daily meditation/prayer practice. She is under the impression she needs to do a whole hour in one sitting. Discussed the usefulness of dividing this into 30 or 20 or even 15-min segments throughout the day. She sees the connection between this formal practice and her use of the Jesus Prayer throughout the entire day.

Client/Group progress summary

This client continues to do very well. She takes our work together seriously. She loves the holistic nature of yoga therapy. Her son-in-law mounted the planter on her window, and she planted some small plants. She also made two drawings this week. I could tell she was pleased that she had done the gardening and the artwork this week. Her motivation level has been better. She returned the Raja Yoga handout to me today saying she understands its relevance but for now, she wants to focus on her Christian prayer. She said we can return to it later.

Reflection and self-evaluation

Today, she asked me if I could be her spiritual director. I told her I'm trained as a spiritual director, and that work is definitely part of what we're doing in yoga therapy. She continues to be much more interested in the mental/emotional and spiritual aspects of yoga therapy rather than the physical. I believe I'm doing a good job of meeting her needs where she is at this time. She continues to need reassurance that she is on the right track. Just by seeing her where she is, I am supporting her journey and reminding her there's nothing "wrong" with her.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

Review her week to see how the physical, mental, and spiritual practices we did worked out for her. I admit I'm starting to run out of specific plans for what to do in each session, so I'm "going with the flow" of whatever she brings up. I'm glad to see her developing a strong Christian practice that does not require her to join a church community since she says that's not a good fit for her now.
