Presenting ProblemIn February 2024 she was in a car accident. There were no broken bones and she was taken to the hospital. Her left knee was impacted and she received Physical Therapy which helped her a lot. Sometime long after this accident she noticed that her shoulders and neck would tense up when she cut vegetables and also when she took a shower. She thinks this is happening as it is a result of the accident.
Physical

Client is in fairly good health. She able to get around easily. She does all her house work.

Client/Group goalsClient wants to totally relax. She wants yoga for her physical, mental and spiritual health.
Energetic

Client’s energy is good.

Emotional

In general Client seems stable emotionally. The Client does stress over two of her grandchildren ages 22 and 20 because they are not able to go to school nor work because they are undocumented. They are in the process of applying for their Green Card but in the meantime, they are unable to work nor go to school. Client’s rent has been raised and this has also caused her stress.

Spiritual orientation and needs

Client is Catholic and is happy with her religion. She is not looking for religious orientation.

Intellectual / Sense of self

Client seems to be generally easy going and content.

Educate the Client on the Stress Response. Reframed Praktipaksha Bhavana to think and visualize her grandchildren surrounded by a white loving light followed by prayer when she her worries about them and to lead client away from stressing. This is something positive that she can do and does not set up any expectation of what she wants for them.

Additionally, as per your suggestion, I will educate the client on the modifications of the mind stuff, and ask her to notice how she feels when she thinks of something – and ask if it is painful for to her to think about it, and follow that by asking her to think of the same thing without any expectation attached to it, for her to see the difference. All of this is reframed of course, not using any of the Sanskrit terms.

The study below is ideal for my client. Unfortunately, she cannot read it because she does not speak or read enough English.

The study is an RCT Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program for older adults with a risk for coronary artery disease. The study found that the older adults in this study appreciated the most was the teacher instruction and sitting meditation practices. The metabolic benefits observed for LDL and total cholesterol, was a decrease by 15 and 10% respectively in the MBSR group. “Study shows that greater parasympathetic activity correlated with greater decreases in triglyceride levels (cholesterol); and that more minutes practiced per week correlated with decreases in total cholesterol. Being retired and having more available time on their hands seemed to facilitated participation in the study. Participants reported increased self-awareness and lowered distress post MBSR which contributed, according to them, to improving different life domains, including intra-interpersonal well-being.”

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
