Homework assignment to client/group

Continue to spend time in nature on her walks. Kirtan Kriya finger tapping practice. Back muscle release at the wall and down dog at the wall. Listen to Krishna mantra recording as it suits her. Kept home practices short as client starts a new job on June 3rd.

Activities

Check-in. Grounding. Centering. Shape the breath. Awareness practice. Standing spinal warm-up. Back muscle release with tennis ball in long sock at the wall. Downward facing dog to plank at the wall using 1” thick foam brick under left foot. Explored accessible options for quad and hip flexor stresses (tight after recent 1 ½ mile walk.) Explored alternatives to unsupported child’s pose to accommodate client in TriYoga classes she takes. Client’s sphinx, seal PT exercise sequence with focus on the breath. Downward facing dog with hands on the mat as a counterpose was comfortable and easeful. Seated. Kirtan Kriya finger tapping practice without talking. The client “got it.” Talked about neuroplasticity related to aging. Supine. Guided relaxation, Karen Brody, Daring to Rest yoga nidra for healing followed immediately with “Om sri krishna sharanam mama” mantra recording. Client refection, closing, discussion of home practice. Client left the session calm with back relieved.

Client/Group progress summary

Kirtan Kriya finger tapping is becoming familiar. Seems as though she is more of a kinesthetic learner. The muscle release technique is effective in a short time. The thin yoga brick used to level the pelvis is relieving much discomfort in her standing asana practice in the weekly group classes she takes. Her outlook seems more positive and her demeanor is calmer, more accepting then when we first started working together.

Reflection and self-evaluation

Dizziness persists, occurred when moving from standing to supine, and supine to seated. Made these transitions slowly.

Even with two unplanned explorations of accessible options, the session went smoothly without being rushed. My intuitive wisdom serves me well when I take a few moments in easeful consideration.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

Take more time with pranayama. Discuss breath practices with the client. Which ones does she like to practice? Include one that is energizing and one that is calming. Could be kapalabhati and nadi shodana or bhramari. Same or similar start to session. Continue with Kirtan Kriya practice progression. Possibly include gentle core strengtheners for back pain relief.
