Homework assignment to client/group

Daily: standing chest expansion with the strap; noticing where stress/anxiety shows up in the body; softening abdomen and practicing abdominal breathing.

Activities

Reviewed homework assignments. Client admitted he did not practice every day.
Practiced chest expansion with the strap again. He stated he can really feel how this opens chest and shoulders (very different from trying to clasp his hands behind his back).
Practiced standing joint freeing series.
Discussed sensing how stress/anxiety shows up in the body ("head, mouth, neck"), so he knows to become more aware of this.
Pranayama: reclining on accordion-folded blanket with head elevated. We focused on abdominal breathing only. Client stated he doesn't breathe, is not normally aware of his breathing at all. I instructed him to focus on abdominal breathing only at this point.
Yoga nidra

Client/Group progress summary

Client is becoming more aware of how he holds tension in his body. When instructed to soften abdomen and breathe into abdomen, he commented about how difficult this is because we're taught to "suck the gut in." Since this client is retired military, I imagine this was very ingrained. Client did not feel light-headed with the gentle pranayama today.

Reflection and self-evaluation

I enjoyed working with this client and trying the accordion-folded blanket with him for pranayama. He said it was very comfortable, and I observed that his breathing seemed much more relaxed and comfortable than last session.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
