How do you feel?

What do you find stressful?
What do you feel? Where do you feel it?

What happens in the body:
The stress response - fight or flight - is a basic survival mechanism.
READ under What is Stress
The stress response happens in response to our PERCEPTION.
Do you see it as a challenge or as a threat? The STORY causes the stress response. It’s what you tell yourself that matters.
STRESS usually begins in the MIND, but ends up in the BODY.
So what can we do about it?
**PRACTICES**
BODY
Process stress from the body: stretching, walking, dancing, yoga, tense and release
Engage the equal and opposite response - the relaxation response - add a little tension.

BREATH
Deep breathing is incompatible with the stress response. You cannot be breathing deeply and smoothly and continue to be in the stress response. Breathing practices are completely portable, and are the most powerful forms of stress management.

MIND
Use your mind to cut through stress.
Focus on what you can control. (Is it true? Is it happening right now? Do I have any control over it?)
Change your perception - challenge or threat
Tell yourself a different story - reframe vs avoid

Client/Group progress summary

Very engaged today. Not even fidgeting during long breathing and centering practices. Very willing to share their stressors with the group and open to learning new information.

Reflection and self-evaluation

I really wish I had more time for this one. We’ll have to revisit. And also we can incorporate all of this into classes - the breath and body stuff is already there, need to add some jnana yoga!

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

Next week is integration of the stress mgmt practices, adding on to what we’ve been doing.
