| Client/Group progress summary | PAM stated that when she lies down for longer periods of time it can lead to pain. She chose her bed for YN, as opposed to a supported savasana in her chair. This YN was 25 minutes which was doable and comfortable for client, she stated. I offered the following, "Based on what I’ve read and what your doctor shared, it seems like paying attention to how your hips and lower back are positioned when you’re sitting, standing, and walking could be really helpful. What are your thoughts on that?” "Does the way your hips and lumbar area are positioned during movement perhaps affect how you feel?" "How do you notice your body moving or feeling in those moments?” She was ambivalent, “I mean, sure — it might make a difference, but I don’t know how I’d even start keeping track of that all the time.” I offered an observation that it seems like it's something she'd started to notice, and it makes sense that she'd want to understand how much of a difference it could actually make. She said she'd try it out today, noticing and adjusting to see if it helped. |
| Reflection and self-evaluation | I need to remember to use more motivational interviewing with this client. I listen then leave space for her to process what she's saying. She sometimes comes to a positive conclusion on her own. She appears resistant to direct input, I learned that early on that despite her apparent ease and openness, I need to better package my thoughts. I've been reading more about MI in order to be able to process and respond appropriately. |
| Final Client/Group Report | After seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake) Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report. |
| Plan for next session | Chair postures with fewer hip-focused movements as there appears to be more pain and less ROM. She chose not to stand this session. I'll have some supported standing options in place but if the pain persists/has increased again, I'd like to check-in about her PT and medical appointments. She's in the pool, doing PT, and yoga, and on medication but there seems to be little to no improvement. |
