| Client/Group progress summary | Client was able to continue doing the Japa for her arms and hands. We discussed Sutra I.2: The restrain of the modifications of the mind-stuff is Yoga, to this client, I discussed the modifications as the usual thoughts we have of which many include stressful thoughts, and gave examples of how one thought leads to another. Then to show how we can narrow down those thoughts I used prayer (something that she is very familiar with) –when focusing the mind on prayer the mind is focused on just the prayer. But prayer is still an assembly of thoughts. In prayer the mind does not go off thinking of world things – the mind is just on the prayer. And to further explain that we can quiet down the mind more by putting the mind on one thing – such as the image of Jesus Christ. She understood this by relating it to a practice they do in her church of thinking of one thing. In the next session I will go over this again briefly and then explain that putting the mind on Jesus Christ with Love and by feeling he is with her, she will feel a great peace and that peace is God. Client has been having trouble sleeping, she wakes up very early and sometimes she cannot go back to sleep. Just before she goes to sleep, she usually watches soap operas, and after that she prays a little. I suggested that one hour before going to bed she turn away from the television, so she can give her mind a chance to clear of all of those things. Then before the prayers, to do a meditation visualizing Jesus Christ and his love and light. Client appreciated the information on the scientific research study that found that yoga (MBSR) decreased by 15% cholesterol levels in older adults who were at risk for coronary artery disease. |
| Reflection and self-evaluation | Client seems to enjoy the asana and meditation – the stillness and silence is very relaxing for her. Client has been comfortable with the guided meditation on visualizing Jesus Christ. Client will be traveling for three or four weeks, we will meet again after she returns. When she returns we will review a few of the things we have discussed in the last two sessions. |
| Final Client/Group Report | After seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake) Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report. |
| Plan for next session | Centering. Asana - Japa and Chair Yoga. Body scan. Breathing practice - 3 Part Breath. Meditation - guided meditation visualizing Jesus Christ and a white loving light followed by prayer. Teach finger compression practice to help with the arthritis in the fingers. As explained above, in the next session I will go over Sutra 1.2 again briefly and add that in the silence and stillness the client should put the mind on Jesus Christ and feel he is with her with love - she will feel a great peace and that peace is God and that this peace is her true self. Introduce Sutra 1.3: Then the Seer [Self] abides in His own nature. In the next session, we will review stress reduction education. |
