Homework assignment to client/group

Aim for 45-min each day for self-care activities (walking, asana, pranayama) even if broken up into smaller 10-15 min segments. (Client stated she has been successful with this recently.)
As an experiment, follow any urges to be outside in the grass with bare feet - or any similar urges - and notice the effects.
Keep experimenting with more veggies (variety) in diet.

Activities

Discussed client's trip to SC with her son and daughter (husband stayed behind). They stayed at a university for a week and ate at the cafeteria. Client stated she was able to eat very well - mostly salad with chickpeas and beets, cooked veggies, and sometimes chicken. She walked everywhere and needed to climb stairs several times a day; this amounted to about 5 miles a day according to Fitbit. Client stated she felt much better on this trip than she normally does at home.
Asana: chair, standing, supine
Pranayama: seated brahmari, supine extended exhales

Client/Group progress summary

Client seemed to do very well while out of town last week. She was able to do everything she struggles to do at home: exercise, eat a healthy diet, practice yoga/pranayama and other selfcare activities. Now that she's home, she has been dealing with flooding that occurred in the basement while she was away, and also prepping the kitchen for some work that will be done by contractors.
Client has been able to increase the amount of weight she lifts when working out.

Reflection and self-evaluation

I did a good job of commending the client on her achievements in selfcare, as well as encouraging her to make additional small changes, including listening to and trusting her body/mind when they create "urges" for simple things like being outside in bare feet in the yard.
I felt very irritated when she talked about how her husband hasn't done anything to help clean the flooded basement - and it happened while he was home and she was away with the kids! She also commented that "he was busy with many things" while she was away and "he has a hard time" when she is away - because she does everything for him. I detest when men act like children and expect their wives to do everything for them. I honestly think a big part of the reason why my client felt so much better when she was out of town was because she got a break from her husband and his demands. I didn't say any of this, however, because I wasn't sure how to do so without being offensive. I would like her to at least become aware of the possibility that he (his presence) may be a big reason why she feels bad physically and has trouble taking care of herself.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
