| Session Date | 06/17/2024 |
| Session Number | 5 |
| Total Session Minutes | 105 |
| Homework assignment to client/group | Based upon the client’s own desire~ Choosing among the practices given thus far, decide upon a realistic home practice, in time allotment, times per day, and types of techniques. Work on consistency of practice. Reflect on effects of the practices and acknowledge her dedication to her yoga practice. (Sutra 1.14 Perfection in practice comes when one continues to practice with enthusiasm for a long period of time without interruption.) |
| Activities | Centering and grounding. Check-in, reflection over prior month’s practices. Standing warm-up including spinal movements, downward facing dog at the wall, Qi Gong moving meditation with hand gestures, introduction to and instruction on kapalabhati pranayama, HA breath kriya, Warrior I ancient sequence, humming breath in crocodile. Closing. Reflection and recap. Ideas for home practice. |
| Client/Group progress summary | The client seemed a bit less burdened by work and family obligations, taking time for family recreation. She would like to carve out time in the mornings for an invigorating practice and the evenings for a calming yoga practice. Family demands are making that more challenging when her kids are off school for the summer. Even so, she does practice a warm-up sequence and downward facing dog at the wall each morning. I suggested incrementally building upon what she has already established. Her dedication to keeping up her yoga practice is inspiring as is her curiosity about and appreciation of yoga. |
| Reflection and self-evaluation | My skills in teaching introductory pranayama need attention. Looking for instructional videos to share with the client was helpful for me to see how different people teach the same breathing technique, giving me ideas for how to improve my teaching. Our client/yoga therapist relationship is becoming more and more easeful. |
| Final Client/Group Report | After seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake) Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report. |
| Plan for next session | Reflection on consistency of practice and barriers to it. Revisit being in nature and connection to the divine. Practice kapalabhati together. Introduce nadi shodhana pranayama. Selection of invigorating movement practices per care plan followed by low, slow movement into stillness with guided relaxation. Discuss personalized guided imagery. Is this something the client would like to try. If yes, offer personal imagery questionnaire. |
