Homework assignment to client/group

This was the group's last session. I reminded them of all the tools they now have in their "toolbox" to draw from as needed. I reminded them to practice regularly so the skills are available to them when they are most needed (in times of stress/anxiety).

Activities

Reviewed all handouts and answered questions. Clients stated they most enjoyed (and used at home) pratipaksha bhavana, the 4 four locks/keys, gunas, and slow deep breathing.
Clients retook the gunas mental constitution questionnaire to compare with what they found on the first week.
Asana: chair practice
Pranayama: brahmari, 3-part breath, extended exhales, alternate nostril breathing
Complete yoga nidra
"peace is in me" meditation (another favorite of the group)

Client/Group progress summary

Clients were sad to see the group ending. One said it had been "life changing" for him. They all agreed they received a lot of useful information and techniques from the 8 weeks. They all appeared calm and peaceful at the end of the session today. I reminded them I am available for individual yoga therapy sessions if interested.

Reflection and self-evaluation

I realized that, overall, facilitating this group on anxiety made ME feel anxious every week - and I am glad it's over. I think the anxiety stemmed from the fact that this group had more discussion than what I usually offer. Typically, I lecture from a power point which I didn't do with this group. I taught via handouts, explanations, and discussions for roughly the first 30 minutes, then moved into actual practices (which I feel comfortable with). I feel much safer when I can "hide" behind the power point presentation and just answer a few brief questions.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
