Homework assignment to client/group

Client is preparing to house-sit for a friend, so will feel a little more free.
She did practice the restorative pose in bed. She has not attempted or read any of the other things and would like a do-over.
She will attempt the gym one day a week, and practice the releasing exercises from Y12SR. (above) some walks, and the moving Serenity Prayer.

Activities

Talk, check in.
Client was in bed and didn’t immediately feel like doing anything, so we did the session a bit upside down (according to our guidelines). We started with the restorative pose and talked softly about how it feels, scanning the body and breath.
She shared how great she felt after Y12SR last time, so I thought back to what we did that night and asked if she’d like to do some of those things. She said she had really loved the blanket exercises we did a few months ago, so I asked her to get a blanket (ended up suggesting she switch to a towel for the similar effect to the yoga blanket). These are releasing exercises - shaking out the blanket, swirling it like a washing machine, wrapping it around yourself halfway and then swirling it all around overhead. They are very satisfying, and also great exercises for hand strength and shoulder mobility.
We talked about the energy shift she feels when doing those releasing exercises, and did them a few times so maybe she can think of them when she’s not with me.
Then we moved into the philosophy discussion. She hadn’t read the article on the locks and keys, so I described that with examples, which she was interested in.
She hadn’t done the meditation or prayer examples we talked about last time, so we did the moving serenity prayer to close and then talked about how it can be done any kind of way, but that’s the idea of being more mindful, and making a prayer more meditative, but also in this case adding some movement as both a beneficial movement, but also an additional focus for the mind.

We also talked about this from several different angles:
Where the mind goes, the prana follows. –SSS

Client/Group progress summary

Client showed up (on Zoom) in bed. Has the sniffles. Her eyes are healed from the surgery. She feels achy from packing and lifting boxes, but feels strong, not depleted.
There’s negative energy at home. She appears depressed, but describes an adrenaline-like feeling motivating her to keep moving forward with the divorce and move.
She feels overwhelmed. She has mixed emotions.
She just returned from a positive trip with family and became a bit more animated when talking about that.
She’s constantly thinking, planning, seeing the lawyer, realtor, and the car mechanic because she had a minor car accident.
She’s turning things over to a higher power as much as she can.
She did practice the restorative pose in bed and it helped her fall asleep and rest peacefully.

Reflection and self-evaluation

The time went fast, and I didn’t get everything in, but I felt it was beneficial as I watched her energy shift during the hour. I did encourage her to schedule for next week and she agreed.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

I’m still committed to encouraging her to exercise a bit more, and to do her PT. I need to encourage in a way that doesn’t feel like more overwhelm.
I did come with exercises for scoliosis today, but she was not interested in that type of movement, so I’ll offer again next time. I also want to share some resources for modifying poses with all of her conditions, so she’ll feel more comfortable in a yoga class (when it’s not with me)
