Homework assignment to client/group

- Practice Ujjayi at least 1x per day and prior to bedtime
- Self-massage sides of neck, behind ears for VN activation
- Practice 5-4-3-2-1 technique when anxiety shows up
- Deep gentle breaths with extended exhales with Ocean waves visualization
- Gently shaking her body when feeling anxiety - discharging the energy

Activities

-Client was visibly tired and run-down. She'd been dealing with 2 sick cats and construction / exterior painting at her home. Mentioned that she’s had a couple of panic attacks and recurring bouts of anxiety since our last session. I scratched my session plan.

- She was only up for some gentle chair yoga – twists / side stretches / forward folds / swan dives for warm-ups. I then decided to focus on Vagus Nerve activation. We practiced Ujjayi breath, which she found to be most beneficial and soothing. We continued with gentle self-massage of area behind ears and sides of neck. We also practiced ear to shoulder stretches w/ eyes gazing opposite direction for further VN activation. We continued with more Ujjayi breath with pauses and discussion about shift in energy as she practiced Ujjayi breath.

- We then talked about Sutra 1.2– Yogas Citta Vritti Nrodahah – yogic practices supporting her to manage the fluctuations of the mind...coming into the present moment through body and breath connection and enabling her to watch her emotions - as the Witness - come and go like waves coming and going.

- Guided Meditation - Ocean Visualization with hands and heart on belly - Ujjayi – inhaling / exhaling – sensing waves coming and going like her emotions.

Client/Group progress summary

This was our last session. Given her exhaustion, we didn't get a chance to complete as I had hoped. All in all, I believe she found benefit from our time together. From focusing on supporting her back issues to addressing whatever she was presently facing (e.g., tight calves, etc.) during our sessions, I trust she learned some new practices and techniques that will support her as she moves through her daily life.

Reflection and self-evaluation

HG was my first client. I learned so much from our time together - prepping for it too. From adjusting to her needs in the moment and meeting her where she was at, to trusting myself and realizing I know more than I give myself credit for, I'm most grateful for the opportunity to have worked with her.

Client texted me two days after our session to say that the VN activation practice and Ujjayi had helped her. Said I was a good teacher. 🙂

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
