Homework assignment to client/group

Overall, Dan showed dedication to his practice and a willingness to incorporate new techniques to improve his physical and mental well-being.

1. Balancing Exercise: I provided a sheet with images and instructions for balance exercises and reminded him to practice safely, ensuring his surroundings are clear and using a table or wall for support. The exercises include Hip Flexion, Calf Raises, Hip Extension, and Side Leg raises from the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy.
2. Lower body muscles strengthen
Chair Squat, Seated Dorsiflexion from Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy
3. Eye movement: 1 or 2 times a day and as needed.
4. JAPA Meditation with Alternate Nostril Breathing
Suggested combining his 10-minute daily practice with the affirmation, “I trust my body’s ability to heal and restore itself,” which became his favorite mantra.

Activities

I began today's session by checking in with Dan about how he was feeling and whether he had noticed any physical or mental changes or challenges since our last meeting. He mentioned that there hadn't been any major changes, but he expressed concern about his balance, feeling unsteady in the shower even when standing on both feet with his eyes closed. Then, I led Dan through a centering exercise using three-part breathing, which helped him relax and focus on our practice.
Moving into physical movement, I guided Dan through joint movements and slow shoulder and back movements. We then focused on balancing exercises for about 10 minutes. Following this, I demonstrated Chair Squat and Seated Dorsiflexion as muscle-strengthening practice.
To end this session, I led Dan through a 15-minute body scan and alternate nostril breathing. Observing this practice helped him completely relax, both physically and mentally.

Client/Group progress summary

Dan established his practice routine, he practices eye movement and alternate nostril breathing at least once a day, sometimes 2 times, and reported this practice helps him to relax his mind, and liked it. He also practices Japa mediation repeating his mantra in the afternoon, he repeats “I trust my body’s ability to heal and restore itself”.

He has made progress since we started the sessions, despite having no prior experience with yoga asanas or philosophy.

Reflection and self-evaluation

I felt he understands the concept of non-attachment and is trying to apply it in his daily life. He reported, "I had to have the exterior wall painted, which I could not do by myself anymore. Instead of feeling frustrated by my physical limitations, I thought, 'I can hire someone to do this job.'" He is not attached to what he lost but
he now appreciates what he can. This is Pratipaksha Bhavana also.

Overall, the program is working well, especially the daily practice of breathing, eye movement, Japa meditation is improving his mental and emotional well-being.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

I will continue to follow this care plan for the next sessions, especially focusing on his physical practice to strengthen his muscles and improve his balance. I will discuss teaching of yoga further using some analogies and how to practice including contentment.
