Homework assignment to client/group

She already meditates and chants every day, I assigned her to add the following practices,
gentle chair yoga, balancing practice, and heel drop into her daily routine.

Activities

I began today’s session by asking Stephanie how she was feeling and if she had noticed any changes or challenges, both physically and mentally, since our intake session.
We practiced three-part breathing, then I asked her if she could chant with me. We chanted "Hari Om" together.

After chanting, I discussed her care plan, which includes breathing practice, guided meditation, physical movement, and yoga teachings. I explained the concepts and benefits of body scan and Pratyahara to her, and she understood them well. She mentioned, "Anything that I can do to distance myself from the pain would be beneficial."

For physical movements, we practiced joint movements, neck and shoulder stretches, balancing exercises, and heel drops. I led carefully avoiding spinal flexion and twist, neck extension. Her balance was better than in the previous session; she was able to stand with her heel placed on her other ankle. She noted that sometimes her balance is good, and sometimes it is not.

The session ended with a 15-minute body scan.

Client/Group progress summary

Since this was the first session after the intake and assessment, I did not observe any noticeable progress. However, I did sense her motivation to improve her physical condition and mental well-being.

Reflection and self-evaluation

I felt she enjoyed chanting together as she likes Hindu chanting and has been a yogi for 50 years.
Chanting together created a serene start to the session. Her participation in chanting indicates an openness to incorporating spiritual elements into her routine.
Her willingness to learn about Pratyahara and engage in body scan meditation shows her openness to exploring new techniques for pain management and relaxation.

I think offering Hari Om chant to begin the session worked well, she seemed to be relaxed. And body scan at the end of the session brought her a “peaceful” moment that’s what she described at the end.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

I plan to follow the care plan in the next session. I will discuss more about wisdom teaching as she is familiar with some of those teachings.
I will continue to include JAPA (joint movement) and body scan will help isolate certain parts of the body, by practicing those she will be able to alleviate her pain.
