Presenting Problemtrauma, right knee pain - "shallow groove", tension in upper trapezius and low back
Physical

In physical assessment client did not have major movement restrictions. Could perform a bodyweight squat to a fair range of motion without pain or discomfort in the right knee. She holds tension in the neck and upper trapezius - especially the right side, where she has a feeling of being "stuck" but no known diagnosis or prior injury (could be from overuse/repetitive motion in her chiropractic practice). Slight forward posture which she also described in her intake - could be overly tightened psoas?

She shared some powerful insights at the end of her intake - in particular the tension she feels around her throat ("not having/finding my voice") and around her heart/chest.

Client/Group goalshealing from past trauma, reduction of pain/tension in neck and low back
Energetic

The client breathes well but somewhat shallow, commenting herself on feeling "locked/tight" in the diaphragm. Her overall energy was balanced - she has been on her own health journey this year and is seeking to improve her work/life balances by prioritizing her self care, and creating a practice that will nourish her across all koshas.

Emotional

The client did not elaborate on what she described as "family trauma/life realizations" in her intake. This is something that I did not want to push, but simply offer safe space that, as our therapeutic relationship grows, I hope she will feel safe to talk about if she chooses.

Spiritual orientation and needs

The client indicated she prays and meditates - did not discuss this as much as I had hoped, and in the intake mentioned what she describes as "spirit guides." She very much wants to support the healing of others, and understands her need to support her own healing first in order to offer this.

Intellectual / Sense of self

Overall the client presented very sattvic during assessment - balanced energy, good eye contact, relaxed body language. She began a journey this year to live with more balance. She finds clear purpose in her family, her pets, and connecting with nature.

Yoga philosophy/wisdom research reference(s)

Introducing her to the panchakosha model - I'm not sure what the best reference would be for it, but as a medical professional and bodyworker I think she will appreciate the lens of the koshas as a way to better understand herself as well as her clients.

Sutra 1.12 - https://integralyogamagazine.org/patanjalis-words-the-nature-of-yoga-practice/ The two translations I tend to go to first are Swami Satchidananda's and Rev. Carrera's. I feel the client will appreciate the necessary balance between abhyasa, which I think of what we add to support our healing and for the long-term continued balance of health, and vairagya, the continuous exploration of letting go of what we've been holding onto for a long time, as well as the new attachments we often pick up each day. I think the client will also appreciate Nischala Joy Devi's perspective: "Imagine that Abhyasa (Devoted Practice) and Vairagya (Remembering the Self) are two wings of the same bird. They are companions in play as they flap in unison enabling the bird to fly: when they are seemingly still, the bird glides." (The Secret Power of Yoga, p.40)

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
