Presenting Problemstress, low back pain, shoulder tension
Physical

No movement restrictions. Client previously enjoyed vigorous ashtanga practice (explored the "rocket series" and was working towards handstands and other inversions). Guided client through four slow rounds of surya namaskar, during which she reported "feeling good" with no discomfort in shoulders or back. Client is very mindful of nutrition and natural supplementation.

Client/Group goalsstress management, improved self care, return to a consistent practice
Energetic

During breath assessment no signs of major restriction or reverse breathing, but breathing was not deep - minimal movement in the abdomen.

Emotional

Client presented strong effort to "hold it together" - under tremendous stress with the care of her special needs daughter, Ellory they adopted from Bulgaria when she was 3 years old (now 12). At times Ellory has been unintentionally violent and client admits possible PTSD from the challenges of finding the right care for her daughter.

Spiritual orientation and needs

Client has a very strong faith - indentifies as a follower of Christ. Has strong support system with church family, personal study of scripture and practice of prayer. Very open to yoga teachings that support her Christian beliefs.

Intellectual / Sense of self

Client presented in some ways rajasic - so many items on her "to do" list to prepare for daughter starting part-time at a school in the area that support autistic children (described it as the last possible hope for school other than homeschooling) - this will happen late July - as well as many other things she needs to get done. At the same time she was also tamasic - in facial expressions, posture - a sense of heaviness and overwhelm that weighted on her - very much carrying the "weight of the world on her shoulders".

Yoga philosophy/wisdom research reference(s)

Sutra 1.33 - the locks and keys - feel this could be beneficial in her relationship with herself as well as with her daughter, Ellory

Really most of book 1 - from sutra 1.1 through the mental modifications and onto abhyasa and vairagya. Client could definitely benefit from the balance of practice, with letting go of all that she cannot control.

Scientific research reference(s), why chosen, how you plan to incorporate 1-3

Netra Vyayamam - feel this will be very supportive in relieving tension in the shoulder and low back.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
