Presenting Problemrecovery from surgery (donated lobe of liver)
Physical

Client has rounded shoulders (not kyphosis), taking a little longer to get up and down from the ground than prior to surgery. Earlier this year she donated the left lateral segment of her liver to a pediatric patient, but was cleared to resume "normal activity" 12 weeks post-surgery. Client describes discomfort supine - "challenges lying flat" - head cannot touch the ground.

Client/Group goalsregain core strength, improve posture, find sense of balance
Energetic

Breathing in shallow, not much movement in the abdomen. Feels that she sometimes "forgets to breathe." She describes her energy level as low, and presented somewhat tamasic - sense of heaviness. States she struggles in the fall/winter (S.A.D.?) - on intake stated "I take on a lot, which I love, but doesn't leave room for me."

Emotional

Client is on a prescribed mood stabilizer as she states she feels "a lot of feelings." It seems like the client takes on the burdens of others, and then struggles with being frustrated from doing so, then also feeling guilty for her frustration - many conflicting emotions that while she presents tamasic in her energy, her mind is very rajasic. Feels she is in a particularly stressful season with her own recovery, family health challenges, and taking on the burden of clients.

Spiritual orientation and needs

Client has a strong faith, and serves as part of living that out (karma yoga?) She finds purpose and joy in service - yet gets overwhelmed when extends herself too much.

Intellectual / Sense of self

Describes herself as having "terrible executive dysfunction." Client finds sense of self in her faith and serving others - struggles with setting boundaries and holding them.

Yoga philosophy/wisdom research reference(s)

Sutra 1.33 - the Locks and Keys - the four attitudes to hold with herself and others -> could help her set healthy boundaries without guilt or attachment to the responses of others

Scientific research reference(s), why chosen, how you plan to incorporate 1-3

McGill Big 3 - modified versions of the poses (ex - taking the bird dog exercise and make it supine as Dead Bugs).

YCAT/Healing Relationships - awareness practice: help her connect to her koshas, take time to pay attention and reconnect with her deeper self

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
