Homework assignment to client/group

Read Adele's chapter on self-inquiry.
Continue with daily chair asana, pranayama (especially alternate nostril breathing), and "peace is in me" mantra meditation.

Activities

Client completed one chapter of the reading assignment from Adele's book on Yamas and Niyamas. We discussed the chapter on tapas. Client had questions. We talked about "burning" and what that means in our lives. She admitted she is not very good at self-discipline because she starts practices but has trouble sticking with them. We talked about being very clear with ourselves about our reasons we practices. Also discussed accepting the inevitable suffering of life without fighting or complaining - allowing ourselves to "be cooked" to get the lessons life is bringing us.
Asana: chair and supine
Pranayama: extended exhales

Client/Group progress summary

Client has been consistent with her daily asana, pranayama, and meditation. She has been "off the wagon" on her healthy vegetarian diet - still struggling because her cholesterol numbers threw her off. However, she now sees that she is feeling horrible physically since she stopped eating well - and this is motivation for her to get back on track this week. She plans to try medication for cholesterol when she sees her doctor next time. Client is going to Yogaville later this month for the Meditation TT. She loves Yogaville. Her job is paying for most of the cost of the training because she will be able to use a lot of what she learns with her writing clients.

Reflection and self-evaluation

Honestly, I feel very envious that the client is able to attend the Meditation TT because that is a training I have wanted to take for quite a while but I cannot afford it. She is a hard worker, though, and very short on cash, so this training will be a great blessing for her. I enjoyed discussing tapas with the client today since this is an area that can be difficult to understand and apply to our lives. The client clearly saw areas where she can improve with tapas.

Final Client/Group ReportAfter seeing your client/group (for at least 4 sessions including interactive intake)
Please remember practicum is a learning experience. You’ll learn more from sharing what’s accurate than from what might “look good”. Things you did well, not so well, problems and questions are all valid and useful tools to teach you. We can’t serve you to become the best clinician you can be if you don’t share your challenges and mistakes. Success is anything from which you learn. You can continue to add Session entries after submitting this Final Client/Group Report.
Plan for next session

Review reading assignment.
Discuss her dosha quiz results - especially looking at ways she can pacify pitta which is her dominant dosha (and which is already excessive due to this time of year).
Asana and pranayama as needed.
Help her prepare for the Meditation TT by answering questions and/or meditating together.
