| Core Module Name | Therapeutic Yoga 1 & 2 | ||||||||||||||||||
Plan Information | |||||||||||||||||||
| Selected key teaching (specific core concept): | Therapeutic Yoga is a safe way to move even to those recovering from surgery, injury, or illness. | ||||||||||||||||||
| Goal for implementation with client (Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound relating to the client): | The goal is to help my client learn certain restorative poses to recover, and regain mobility from her should rotator cuff surgery. The program also includes some breathing practice to calm the mind, control the pain. This 45 mins weekly session runs for 3 weeks, the progress will be monitored using an evaluation sheet. | ||||||||||||||||||
| Relevant Client(s) Details | Aiko is a female in her late 60's. She had rotator cuff surgery a few months ago, and she recently finished sessions with PT. She can perform most of the daily activities without any issues, but she won't be able to teach tea ceremony class nor wear kimono by herself. She needs to increase her mobility. | ||||||||||||||||||

Report Information | |||||||||||||||||||
| How did you envision working with the client(s) to incorporate the selected teaching? (Define the plan) | I envisioned working with this client on a weekly basis, each session was 45mins. | ||||||||||||||||||
| What branch(es) of IY did you use? How does each support your goal/relate to the key teaching? | The branch of Yoga I used is Hatha Yoga for the practice of restorative poses and breathing practice. Restorative Yoga assists the body to improve the range of motion by relaxing fully in the stretch with the support of the props so that we can release tension, improve mobility and focus on the breath. | ||||||||||||||||||
| Short notes on time with client: | This client is my tea ceremony teacher for years. I recorded the class and she practiced almost every day using the video I provided. She often emailed me about her progress. https://www.verywellhealth.com/what-is-arthroscopic-surgery-2548501 | ||||||||||||||||||
| Follow up suggestions for your client (whether with you or on their own): | I would advise my client to continue a daily practice of restorative yoga with gentle stretch every day for at least 15 mins to 20 mins focusing on the shoulder area with slow deep breathing. This will help to improve her mobility and also strengthen the muscles around her shoulders. | ||||||||||||||||||
| Reflection | |||||||||||||||||||
| Did you apply your intended plan once you met with the client(s)? Was the goal achieved? Explain. | My intended plan was applied, and the goals were met specifically to improve my client's mobility around her shoulders. I think she benefitted a lot from the sessions. I think the combination of the breathing practice (deep slow breathing) and therapeutic pose with gentle stretch provided her not only with physical movements but also she learned how to regain her mobility at the same time she can relax. | ||||||||||||||||||
| Did you have to adapt anything in your plan? What lessons did you learn? | I talked about meditation at the end of 3rd session, because she was unhappy about her physical condition. She mentioned that she was not able to do certain activities that she could do without issue before her surgery. At that point, I thought the mediation would help to calm her mind, be positive and help to focus on the daily practice. Lesson Learned: Meditation and Pranayama are also big parts of therapeutic yoga, especially working as a yoga therapist. | ||||||||||||||||||
| If you are faced with the same situation again in the future, would you approach it in the same way? Why or why not? What went well? What you might change and why? Summarize. | I will approach in the same manner if I face the same situation. But I would like to spend more time at the end of the first session to find out her both physical and mental conditions after the first session so that I will know if I need to add or modify the program at the next session. | ||||||||||||||||||
