Plan Information

Selected key teaching (specific core concept):

Raja Yoga provides a practical approach to health and balance in all aspects of life: physical, mental, social and spiritual. Meditation and deep breathing help to calm the mind and reduce tension, also help to reduce and recover from over-stimulation for HSP (Highly Sensitive Person).

Goal for implementation with client (Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound relating to the client):

Report Information

How did you envision working with the client(s) to incorporate the selected teaching? (Define the plan)

I envisioned working with this client on a weekly basis for about 30 mins.
Each session started with asking her any questions or concerns, also I talked briefly about selected sutras to help her to alleviate anxiety and fear. The morning practice started with 3 rounds of Kapalbhati,3 rounds of Half Sun Saltation, and silent meditation for 10 mins. The evening practice started with Supported Child Pose approx 9 mins, Nadi Suddhi for 5mins, and silent meditation for 10min.

What branch(es) of IY did you use? How does each support your goal/relate to the key teaching?

The branches of Yoga I used are Raja and Hatha Yoga. The asanas used from Hatha Yoga are Sun Saltation and Supported Child Pose, Sun Saltation will help to energize in the morning, and Supported Child Pose will help to calm the body/mind.
For Raja Yoga, 4 Locks and Keys (Sutra 1.33) and Pratipaksha Bhavana (Sutra 2.33) will help to one's mind steady and calm. Pratipaksha Bhavana can be practiced by replacing negative thought with positive one or changing the environment. By mastering the attitude to deal with 4 different types of people using the right key, one can attain a peaceful mind.
Also, the breathing practice (Pranayama) has a big effect on calming and energizing the mind. Kapalbhati will energize in the morning, Nadi Suddhi helps to calm down at the end of the day.

Short notes on time with client:

This client is a student of my online yoga class, and I know her medical history and her background. It made it easy for me to work with her this time.
She mentioned that she liked writing and reading books about spirituality. She remembers the words "Yama and Niyama", which she learned at school. So it would be helpful for her to learn more about Yoga philosophy to maintain her steady mind.

Follow up suggestions for your client (whether with you or on their own):

I would advise my client to continue to practice a daily practice 2 times/day at home. In addition, I would also advise pranayama and walking meditation any time when she feels anxiety. I suggested walking meditation since her office is located next to a park and she liked nature.
I will suggest writing a journal every day, I believe that the program I offered this time was very effective and doable but writing a journal will add a benefit that helps to track any anxiety or fear day-to-day so that the client can recognize triggers and learn ways to better control them.

Reflection
Did you apply your intended plan once you met with the client(s)? Was the goal achieved? Explain.

My intended plan was applied, and the goals were met specifically to reduce anxiety and fatigue. I think she benefitted a lot from the sessions. Based on her feedback, she said "I can maintain calmness at work by morning mediation and can sleep well by evening meditation. Also Sun Saltation helps to energize that body, reduce fatigue".

Did you have to adapt anything in your plan? What lessons did you learn?

Originally I planned silent meditation but she was not able to sit for more than 5 mins. In addition to silent medication, I offered Walking Meditation, Japa Meditation. I provided guided meditation if she can stay focus during 10 mins meditation. She liked Japa Meditation and Walking Meditation, by the end of 4 sessions she was able to meditate silently for more than 10 mins. Also, I also suggested meditating at the same time every day, in the same place, and make a quiet space where she can relax.

Lesson Learned: To practicing silent mediation is not easy for some beginners. It would be helpful for those students to offer other options.

If you are faced with the same situation again in the future, would you approach it in the same way? Why or why not? What went well? What you might change and why? Summarize.

I will approach the same manner if I face the same situation. In this situation, it is necessary to provide a program that helps the client both energizing and calming, both physically and mentally. And I believe that the program I offered was easy to start with and covered both.
