| Selected key teaching (specific core concept): | Client is seeking yoga therapy for insomnia, can fall asleep but wakes up and can't get back to sleep. This creates brain fog and lack of important decision making as well as poor eating and drinking habits. | Goal for implementation with client (Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound relating to the client): | Over 6 weeks suggested replacing morning coffee with hot water and a light meal after morning yoga or workout. | How did you envision working with the client(s) to incorporate the selected teaching? (Define the plan) | When working with this client I envisioned some resistance, seemed very set in is daily rituals and routine. The insomnia had become bad enough that he was seeking assistance and which is where i was hopeful the suggestions would be applied into his routine. Talking through the unhealthy lifestyle choices it became clear there needed to be more self care on physical body inside and out. | ||||||||||||||||
| What branch(es) of IY did you use? How does each support your goal/relate to the key teaching? | Hatha, the restorative practice | ||||||||||||||||
| Short notes on time with client: | This client has a lot of rajjastic energy hence the need for constant movement and exercise. In order to begin to move into a quieter state in his body and mind I had to meet him where he was and allow him to talk and realize himself it was then he would begin to settle and was open for Pranayama, meditation and restorative yoga which are quiet and slow. In the end he enjoyed the long restorative holds and felt the benefits physically right away. | ||||||||||||||||
| Follow up suggestions for your client (whether with you or on their own): | Hot water in the morning and throughout the day, getting rid of the caffeine. Making the biggest meal at lunch and a light dinner and beginning to cut alcohol down. Continued use of the restorative and adding the yogic breath there in the evenings and the Yoga Nidra at bedtimes as well as the tongue scrapping to remove toxins. | ||||||||||||||||
| Reflection | |||||||||||||||||
| Did you apply your intended plan once you met with the client(s)? Was the goal achieved? Explain. | I applied the intended plan and we worked well when we met in person. Most of the plan was to put these practices to use in his daily routine which is a lot of his motivation and efforts. | ||||||||||||||||
| Did you have to adapt anything in your plan? What lessons did you learn? | There was not much adaptation to the plan, I just wanted to get the basics into practice so the client could feel the benefits. This type of plan needs more time than 6 weeks, I would suggest to work with a client a bit longer and have more follow ups after the sessions are done. | ||||||||||||||||
| If you are faced with the same situation again in the future, would you approach it in the same way? Why or why not? What went well? What you might change and why? Summarize. | If faced in the same situation I would incorporate studies for the client to read of success stories and how these practices help the body and mind. It would be a tool the would greatly enhance what practices are being used and why. | ||||||||||||||||
